best bet would be to powdercoat then paint, the powdercoat gets the best adhesion to aluminum and is alot easier. or u can just leave them in powder.

Do you NEED to paint? I'm using self adhesive vinyl direct to the panels, if clean, the adhesion is good and you dont have to wait for any paint to dry. Just a thought. one other thing, its easier to be creative with the design than a lot of masking trying to create the same with paint work.

Vinyl wraps are becoming more and more common on all types of offroad cars.
The design & theme possibilities are limit less and it is alot easier to create your custom 1-off graphics. Also when it comes time to touch up you redo just one or more sections provided you make arrangements with the printer to hang on to the graphic files.
If i were to paint I would absolutely go the powder coater route.

Zinc chromate primer is the typical primer used for bare aluminum. I also like to use Alodine to treat the metal before I apply the zinc primer. You can find this stuff at any aircraft supply store. I use aircraft spruce.
We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

Zinc chromate is the old school way to primer aluminum and works great if properly prepped. You might even change the main color from orange to green once you see it

Re: Painting a aluminum body panels
Self etching primer or zinc chromate works good if the panels are brand new and need no body work although not the most durable in my opinion. If your panels are used and need some work (stone chips or deep scratches) definitly lay down a nice coat of PPG DP 40 Epoxy Primer then do your body work then lay down a reduced piss coat of DP 40 and paint right over it in about an hour. That will be as durable as it gets with paint. Fine wet sanding in between is an option if it was for show, but your putting it in the dirt. Future repairs will be easier to fix since your useing a quality product like PPG DP 40. Good luck.

Damn Luke!
I guess there are going to be 2 orange nine cars now. I actually picked orange because no one else had one that I saw! I was hoping to be the only great pumkin!
