Re: CA OHV Green Sticker ?
I believe you must go to the CHP for their inspection of the vehicle and they will install a ID tag onto it. After this is completed DMV will issue a green sticker.

Re: CA OHV Green Sticker ?
I just went through that with my four seater. Here is what you need to do.
1. Make a DMV appointment (you need to bring receipts for the chassis, transmission and motor). You might be able to get away with a Bill of Sale not sure.
2. The DMV will refer you to the CHP. You have to have an appointment with the CHP and the appointments must made in person. You have to present the form that the DMV gives you.
3. The CHP will inspect the receipts and the chassis, motor and trans. They will issue the VIN and attach it to the chassis.
4. Now you have to go back to DMV to complete the process. Anything that you haven't paid tax on you must pay tax on. Otherwise it costs $25 to register for it for two years
It is a pain but it is the only way unless you can find a title from somebody. The CHP guy told me that the VIN can be stamped in the chassis and be valid. I have a title from an old race car that I junked and I should have used that.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT tell DMV it was made of misc parts. They will ask for a complete itemized list of all parts and tax you for all of them. Get a bill of sale for X amount of dollars for the whole thing. Tell them you bought it and want a green sticker. Then call the CHP and ask for an apointment to inspect it for a green sticker. They will issue a VIN # and then take the paperwork back to DMV. Hope this helps.

They will only charge sales tax if the receipts you show them don't show sales tax. If you just give them a list with no receipts they will tax you.

If you paid sales tax for the items they don't charge you again. Also you can't call the CHP to make an appointment you must present the DMV slip in person then they issue you an appointment. Another catch is that you have to go the CHP office in the county you live in.

Thanks,
We are in NV purchase out of state stickers for use in CA. There is no requirement other than a small amount of cash.
