    Robby -100 points

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR on Wednesday issued penalties and fines to the No. 7 team that competes in the Sprint Cup Series, as a result of rule infractions found during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.
The No. 7 car, driven and owned by Robby Gordon, was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-3.10A (unapproved front bumper cover) of the 2008 NASCAR rule book. The violations were found during opening day inspection for the Daytona 500 on Feb. 8.
As a result, Gordon has been penalized 100 championship driver and owner points.
Crew chief Frank Kerr has been fined $100,000, suspended for the next six Sprint Cup Series events until April 9 and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2008.

I don't think it does follow suit. Look at these penalties for violations during the duels last year:

Penalties Announced by NASCAR; Suspensions, Fines, Points Taken Away: NASCAR has announced that Robby Reiser and Kenny Francis have each been suspended for 4 races and fined $50,000. In addition, the teams of #17-Matt Kenseth and #9-Kasey Kahne have been penalized 50 owner and driver points. Also, the team directors for Evernham drivers #19-Elliott Sadler and #10-Scott Riggs (Rodney Childers and Joshn Browne, respectively) have each been suspended for 2 races and fined $25,000 for violations found prior to qualifying on Sunday. Those team have each lost 25 owners and drivers point. No announcement has been made on #55-Michael Waltrip.(2-13-2007)

EMS will not appeal 4-race suspension, may appeal #10, #19 penalties: Team owner Ray Evernham said he won't appeal the four-race suspension to #9 team director Kenny Francis but is still mulling over whether to appeal the two-race suspensions of #19 team director Josh Browne and #10 team director Rodney Childers. Francis, the crew chief for Kasey Kahne, had his car fail post-qualifying inspection Sunday after tape came off holes in the oil tank and the right rear wheelhouse, where a hose would run during race conditions. Francis also was fined $50,000, and the team and driver were docked 50 points. Kahne also will have to start his 150-mile qualifying race for Sunday's Daytona 500 from the rear of the field. Evernham said that one layer of tape had been slit but another had not. He said the tape was found inside the car. He said no extra holes were drilled in the car. Browne and Childers, the team directors for Elliott Sadler and Scott Riggs, were found to have illegal bolts in their spoiler fasteners prior to qualifying Sunday. They were also fined $25,000, and the team and drivers were docked 25 points. Evernham said those bolts were used in all restrictor-plate races last year and questioned whether it was right for NASCAR to penalize a team for an infraction where the part is presented for inspection prior to an event and found illegal. "I don't know how you find out if something is legal or not until you present it for inspection," Evernham said. "Those parts were used in 2006. The deck lid is sealed up so they cannot be an aerodynamic device. We lighten several bolts on our car." The car owner said he is now "scared to death" wondering if parts that had been raced will be deemed illegal in pre-qualifying inspection and the team will be docked points in the future. "I'm going to be best friends with [NASCAR's] John Darby and Robin Pemberton because I will be at their doorstep, and I will ask every nut, bolt and washer: Is this legal or not legal?" Evernham said. Evernham said he was still deciding exactly how his teams would be organized and who would be interim team directors. He said the teams will use the 150-mile qualifying races as a test to see who will work well in what role.(in part from SceneDaily.com)(2-14-2007)

Holy crap...that is unbelievable...does NASCAR actually believe that Kerr and RG thought they could put a brand new nose on the car, wheel it out on the track, race it and no one would notice?? Its just not logical to think that they were doing it to gain an advantage...

    Total B.S!

Lets have Tony and Kurt bash each other on the track and in the pits for the second time. And lets not suspend them, but lets nail RGM with a 100 points. F Nascar!

    Re: Robby -100 points

This action taken by Nascar just reafirms my position that NASCAR SUCKS. I miss the good ole days of Nascar before they went all politically correct. I don't know how much more of this I can take. I used to watch every race back in the day. Now if I miss a few its no big deal. Maybe Robbie should tell them to F off and do some sprint car racing or something.

    Re: Robby -100 points

If Robby went back to open wheel tomorrow it would not be soon enough. Not only does this create a points hole, but Robby loses 6 races with his new (in that role, worked with the team before as an engineer) crew chief. The money is not really an issue, but obviously means more than it does to Hendrick.

Pathetic Nascar, just pathetic. Please explain to me if Nascar even admitted the nose provided no advantage and the car never made it on the track how it could be detrimental to stock car racing?

Play by Nascars rules? Screw that, lets go play somewhere else. Unbelievable...

That's what I fail to understand. I can see 25 points and a $25,000 fine, but 100/100k? Geese.

You would think NASCAR would show some sympathy after RGM had very little time to switch mfg's before heading to Daytona, and the clip was supplied by GEM.

Plus, the current clips are Avengers, not Chargers. So if RGM wasn't up to speed on this, it could have been easily, and was, overlooked.

...and fight in the NASCAR trailer!

Hendricks did so badly at the race that they had to penalize everyone else for them to catch up! They will win one way or another.
