San Felipe racers- Beware of border wait scam artists
There is a scam artist in the San Ysidro border wait who is targeting off-road racers.
I cross the Tijuana/ San ysidro border on a daily basis, and I have noticed a certain individual who poses as a victim of mexican police brutality. This guy has had the same story for the last 5 years. He says he just got out of jail today and just needs $12 dollars for a bus ticket to Oxnard, Ventura county. He says his brother is still in jail and he pleads for desperate help from anyone who will help. I have seen this guy pan handle hundreds of dollars from good samaritains who believe his story. Because I know his story is bs, I have been watching him as I wait in line without him knowing. One thing that I have noticed is that he will approch every Off-road vehicle or race team that he comes accross. I think the off-road community is a understanding and helpful group of people and this guy knows it. Unfortunately he has been taking advantage of Off-Road race teams for years. This is why I personally have been approached by the same guy so many different times.
Today I managed to snap off a few pictures of this guy. I shared the pictures with the Customs official (williams) after he inspected my vehicle. This official recognized this guy immediately and warned me of a few things I have no clue of. He told me to be extra careful to not touch this guy or upset him. He told me that this guy has a number of diseases including AIDS and herpes. I have no way of veryfing if this is true, but the official said that this is why he usually has bandaids all over his face. The official also said that he has personally witnessed this guy getting violent with some crossers who have upset him before. The official has witnessed him pounding on car windows and spitting on people. BE CAREFUL. DO NOT PROVOKE THIS GUY. YOUR HEALTH COULD BE AT RISK!!!! Dont give him any money either. How many members on this forum have had experiences with this guy?
I know there is another thread around here somewhere about this but I could not find it. I have pictures to post in a minute.

Re: San Felipe racers- Beware of border wait scam artists
We had the same thing one night coming back from 500 in 06. Real good actor...white guy pleading to us for help. He said he had been arrested and they took everything he had and beat him up. He said he couldn't walk back across the border because he had no I.D., but somehow money for a cab ride was going to work for him. He was very convincing, but his story didn't make sense...and he only wanted money...any other help offered just pissed him off. Bastard spit on the truck when we told him to take a hike.
Thanks for the heads-up and the photos.

I've talked to him...his story is exactly what you described. He told me he couldn't get across the border because the TJ police had taken his wallet, ID and money. He needed cash to get his brother out of jail. I asked him a couple of questions and his answers were B.S. so that's where the conversation ended.
Thanks for sharing Chad ~Be careful out there people!

Same guy at the corner were I live in San Clemente. Give them a break, if you do not want to step up and support what they are about then do not worry about it. Individual descretion involved with each dealing. Do not label.
