Mounting a Howe RAM on a Saco Rack-Class 5
So we finally decided to step up and put power steering on our class 5 prerunner. Since we have the existing standard Saco rack, are there any suggestions you guys have for mounting the RAM to the beam(or...). Any help or pictures would be great. Thanks.

On our short course buggies (super buggy) we made a simple mount out of plate to mount the shaft side of the ram to, just under the existing tie-rod mounts. Then mounted the can side of the ram to the beam. It was fairly simple to do, and we never ripped it off in all the years we built buggies. Hope this helps

Ok, but when you mount the can side to the beam, what do you mount it to. Did you weld a tab or something similar, or just to a flat area.

we made tabs that were bent out (about 25-30 deg) to allow access to the back side to get your washer and nut on. the tabs were then bridge gusseted together and also gusseted back to the beam.

Ya just finished. We welded a thick steel plate along the beam and laid the weld top and bottom and against the upright. It bent a little because the bolt backed itself out at first, but since then no problems, I drive it everyday.

For a race car double shear it

I see your ram, the prev gent said double sheer, at the least you'll want a large washer between the ram and the bolt head to hold the ram in if the bal joint fails.
What you have now is the grey tab off your frame, it would be a better idea to "sandwitch" the ram between tabs (double sheer).
Please see the picture(s) from my 5 car attached, hopefully.

O ok thanks. Do you have any pictures of the 5 car itself?
