Re: Chasing Baja: 40th Anniversary on SPEED
Wow, I agree with everyone! I can't count the hours and sleepless nights myself and 8 good friends spent prepping our 5/1600 for the 1000! Anyone cane race???? Just to get to the starting line.... $3500 entry....$2800 pre-pay fuel tracking thing$400....$250score tag....$40,000 for a low budget class like 5/1600! I don't think anything there was a "throw together"car! Man and BFG??? Love the tireshad 0 flats and great pit support, but was this about racing Baja???Or a 1 hour commercial for the Baja Challange rental race car company? Should have went to Primm!!!

Watching the show I was thinking, "Who's this douche bag Bud guy who thinks he's so cool" (i still have no idea who he is, just that he's a kook).
If you happen to be staying at the San Nicolas Hotel anytime for the next few months (thru the Baja 500) you'll have the pleasure of viewing Chasing Baja over and over as it's endlessly playing on the house channel there.

ok lets make this constructive...who produced this? lets send them the link to this thread..and while we are at it..send to BFG..Yo know now thatthere are other tires choices out there..maybe they will be a little more careful... This sport is just becoming a more mainstream sport and we still need to be careful about how it's portrayed...

Bud Brutsman was the producer and also starred in the documentary. Bud one of the creators/producers for the show Overhaulin' which has long had a very positive industry relationship with BFGoodrich and many others in the industry.
Bill Weber logs 25,000 miles a year for the past ten years in Baja...probably equitable to some of the moto guides like Tim, Seve, Chris and a whole slew of Baja saavy people that ply the back roads of Baja from tip to border on a regular basis not just prerunning or race weekend...Weber is a guy that would help anyone out there in a jam and is truly one bad azz dude...I also believe he's a NAVY Seal...say no more. You may be surprised how many other people you run across when you're in the dirt during the racing off season...it's more than you might think...
Tracy Jordan is a rockcrawler who has been racing in the desert for a handful of years and is a down to earth dirt guy from outside Phoenix area. Nice guy and perhaps the best rockcrawler to date...well maybe neck and neck with Shannon Campbell..but a good dude.
Erin Crocker is the Craftsman Truck Racer...roundy-round and the girlfriend of Ray Evernham. She had never been to Baja and spent a month in the dirt and on the race course prerunning in the middle of nowhere...I spent some time with her during prerunning and she went with the flow...even the out of control margarita party at Rice N Beans / San Ignacio....for a NASCAR chick used to the pomp and circumstance of NASCAR, she did pretty good since they threw her into the wild with a car and a guide they call "The King of Baja"...
The show was produced for the general public...perhaps not for the racer crowd. Most of the GP thinks that any other car besides a truck is a Dune Buggy...and that's no kidding.
The entire deal was supported by BFGoodrich and WOB...just like anything else...Title Sponsors get the headlines cuz they are paying the $$$ to make it happen.

Well I'm a noob to this site. I liked the show, and it will result in my wife finally going down and experiencing the 500 with me.
Good show, packaged for the uninformed general public = more fans = more money for the sport. My marketing .02 pesos
Thanks to all of you for the fun reading and insider perspective of a sport I love.
Go ahead....flame away

I was mad when I couldn't watch the show on speed and tried finding it ever since, well, up until now. I'm glad I didn't waste my time. Oh, the Overhaulin' show sucked.
