I spoke today with Corey Burke - Corey is the one that is actually listed as the executor of Chucks estate. He is struggling to deal with some of this as he is stationed in Kuwait right now until January. There are a couple competeling parties as Chucks brother who has had nothing to do with him for many years has jumped in and wants to handle things as well - It is going to be a little bit of a mess I assume. I am hopeful that when all the dust settles the Rolls can go somewhere fitting - For all the help it did it deserves the off road hall of fame. It would never be the same for another to drive it.
There is speculation that it may already be missing based on the facebook comments that Chuck was waiting for a ride from someone the other day that never showed up. But that is just speculation. Maybe just not runing or out of gas or something
Here is my wish - SCORE 44 is honored for the years of service that he gave to SCORE at the Laughlin Desert Challenge (if it happens......) in January. This was Chucks favorite race and one that he did not miss for the last 15 years. Even one year when he didnt have the Rolls, he made it there and towed cars with a front end loader all weekend long (the rainest Laughlin race ever) The rolls would be there and take one lap around the course with Corey (his co driver for last 4 year) driving it. It would then get parked for people to tell stories about. I spoke to Paul Fish yesterday for a while about Chuck. SCORE I feel would be receptive to any plans to give Chuck some recognition.
I have lost many friends to Suicide. As im sure Jrod can atest, Public Safety has the highest suicide rate in the country. I lose typically 5 friends a year. I am suffereing from the loss of Chuck after having himm cry uncontrollable on the phone 2 weeks ago when I kept his power on for him. If I had been able to help more would it have changed thngs? If I would have followed up and talked to him last week would he be here today. I will never know and unfortunately I will just ask myself those questions again and again for years to come. Over 50 people that were work "friends" in the last 15 years have left the world early. Many by their own hands unfortunately.
Im tired of when my phone rings from someone I rarely talk to, it is another notification in the tree.....
Maybe it is just time to stop answering the phone.
