New version of classifieds
I want to make some comments about the new version of the classifieds.
First, I love the RDC classifieds and follow the ads daily. I have both bought and sold many items using them.
The new version can be more convenient by having the separate classifications. The problem is this: People who place their ads in the wrong class or in every class. The new system has been in place for only two days and already you have 9 out of 13 ads in the race car section are for prerunners or other off road cars. There are at least two ads that are listed multiple times in different classifications. There are ads for parts (IE frame) in the off road car section. If the users will not use the separate sections for their ads the whole system breaks down. This is a big problem with other sites that have classifieds, every different classification has the same ads. Maybe a program could be used that idenitfies the text and will not allow another ad that is over 90% the same as a previously listed ad.
One other complaint I have is with the search function, the search should search all sections rather than just a single section, this is particularly true if people are going to put ads in sections other that where they belong.
So, if this is to be as useful as it can be we need the users to cooperate and the mods to move misplaced ads into the correct class.
What do others think?

Re: New version of classifieds
I like the new section for jobs, and hopefully folks can post there resumes there as well.
I am just used to the old way of searching through everything, so that works for me too. I'm sure the bugs will get worked out.

Re: New version of classifieds
I like the new one better but it is not the format that is the problem. People sometimes are selling a garage full of stuff and list it all in one add. The title will be "Used F150 tailgate" and then they list a dana, a shock set, hubs, a lawn mower and the kitchen sink. I have been lookin for items for my toyota and when I use toyota as a key word or title in my search I get the phone book. Unfortunately lots of the search results aren't toyota related at all.
I hope people would realize when they place their ad that they should be less vague when they do. If you are selling several different items that you should place several different ads, one for each item. They are free, right? When I am looking for a fiberglass toyota hood I dont need to see a used ranger bench seat in my list.
At the same time these random ads that are poorly placed and congest the classifieds do offer one the opportunity to stumble upon a good deal on something they weren't shopping for. It's kinda like going to the swap meet to buy a chair and coming home with a set of hub caps instead.

Thanks for the constructive feedbacks.
We do our best to identify double ad submissions and prevent them but sometimes an ad slips by unnoticed.
Since they are new categories there are a couple of new guidelines that we the moderators and you the user need to adopt to. For example does a tube-frame belong into the cars section or the parts? Its the core component of a car that holds the vin.
We just had a small meeting and came up with a couple of micro additions to be implemented.
- We will ad a UTV section as there are tons of Rhinos in the classifieds and they are neither bikes nor cars and currently float all over the place.
- A global search is technically possible and will be added.
- Some of the submit buttons in some of the categories will get splash screens with guidelines that will aid the user on selecting the proper category before submitting items. Hopefully that helps.
Please be aware that we can not move an ad from one category to another at this time. If an ad doesn't belong we delete them before approval. Unfortunately that happens a lot. People submit the same ad twice. Stock trucks as race cars. Civic gas savers. Pool tables. Boats and all kinds of other non offroad items.

How bout a general/misc. section also? If I'm gonna buy a used refrigerator, might as well be from someone here.

I would love that,... especially on the ones where someone lists what you would pay retail and adds it up for you, or when they let you know how many chicks yur gonna get if you buy this 'prerunner' cuz its sick and chicks mob it...hahaha

I like the new layout, it's easier for me with dial up to look at stuff I want to look at and not have to rummage through other stuff.
