1980 SCORE Riverside Heavy Metal

[Old School 8]

Enclosed scans are from some old letter I came across, in an old file cabinette. Riverside 1980 was my first class 8 race, at the ripe old age of 22. AND, it involved borrowing a truck and trailer, for the long tow from Tucson AZ, (at the mandated 55 mph !)

Sal Fish personally sent these letters out to all the competitors in the JD Brand Heavy Metal Challenge. The purse for the big Sunday afternoon race (put up by JD Brand), was $25,000. If I'm not mistaken, it was won by Ivan Stuart, in a yellow McPherson Chevy class 8.

Dang...I'm so old I was there spectating...If I remember correctly, JD Brand was a new "hi dollar" class 8 team, I think they had a class 4 also...

The good old days of class 8. Still my all time favorite class. I have some programs from Riverside, going to have to look at the dates.
