What Harbor Freight tools are not completely garbage?

    I know...I know....You get what you paid....

But I have found that some tools from HF are not completely garbage....Most need to be tinkered with, but some like hammers do their job decently...

Needless to say I dont use Harbor Freight tools where I can kill or hurt anyone, nor I use them in critical applications....

But what tools from HF do you think are acceptable?

i bought a dimming auto welding helmet from them .. for like $50 bucks ... and its champion .. it came with different lenses and has like 1-10 dimming settings.... the actual plastic of the mask is kinda thin.. i havent been flashed yet, it covers your face/ neck and the head strap is comfy

I have two of the aluminum jacks from HF, I've had one for the past 7 years and it's still going strong. Just bought another one to replace a more expensive jack that lasted only two. For what you pay for them, I'm impressed.

Caution! Tony T. said I could be dangerous.

When i was a dealership tech with honda, id buy cheap tools from there all the time they are awesome , they take a beating and when they break .. just buy a new one... like i bought a Pneumatic brake bleeder for $ 20, used it for 2 years and i use it on the race car its bleeds clutchs too Vs. like a matco or snap on one, or from a company called Vacula (sp) where they are like $300... i wouldnt keep my snap-on tools in a harbor freight box.. but for one off tools you use every once in a while, harbor freight is the shiznit

Re: What Harbor Freight tools are not completely garbage?

I have purchased quite a few tools from them. Most I have been very happy with. All of my pit and chase crew boxes are full of Harbor Freight tools. This way when they come back and say we lost this or we let someone borrow that and we did not get it back, I'm not out allot of money. Learned that lesson with some Craftsmen wrenches that did not come back from Baja once.

Some of the stuff in the pit boxes from Harbor Freight are, misc. wrenches, screw drivers, impact sockets, air gun and hose, air chuck, modified aluminum jack and a blue tarp to lay down if repairs are needed.

Somethings in my garage from Harbor Freight are, Solvent tank (original pump in tank 7 years old!) floor jack, jack stands, big vice, misc. hand tools, strut spring compresser, heat gun and I'm sure a few more that I dont remember. I will say for the most part I have been pretty happy with the tools I have bought from them. Also I realize where i bought them so if something does brake I don't get too upset over it.

Also it works well when a neighbor wants to borrow a tool, I dont give them my good stuff. I give them a Harbor Freight tool to use.

I was planning to buy a a 48" brake to bend 16 gauge sheet metal....I wont use it much since I am no fabricator, but for $500 buck and a few mods I think it could be something I could really enjoy

Do not buy the rechargeable tools they sell. Not even when they are so cheap they seem to good to pass up. The charging system does not auto shut off. If you dont take em off the charger at the right time you will toast them.

The nice part about harbor freight is that the prices are so low they are almost disposable tools. I have had good luck with most of them. I have wondered about their jack myself. Glad to read it has been useful.

I have an old 3 ton floor jack that leaks a bit, but it has been good....so I think most of their hydraulic stuff is not that bad
