    Pocono

Heres the release from RGM. Looks like a blank car this weekend, I hope this doesnt become common, seeing as how I think 13 races are listed as unsponsored on the RGM site. Any predictions? RG tends to run ok at Pocono, but usually has bad luck.

    Robby Gordon Pocono 500 Preview

Before Robby Gordon heads to Pocono Raceway, he will make a pit stop at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night for Tony Stewart’s fourth annual Prelude to the Dream, an all-star dirt race benefiting the Victory Junction Gang Camp's new Kansas City wing, the Tony Stewart Foundation, and other charities. Gordon will be driving a 2,300 lb dirt late model stock car prepped by Scott Bloomquist and sponsored by Jim Beam. Sunday’s Pocono 500 will mark Gordon’s fourth race in just over a week and his 13th start at the unique, three-turn triangular track.

For the first time this season, Robby Gordon Motorsports will be racing a “back in black” unsponsored race car. For sponsorship opportunities available for the top-35 team, contact the Business Development department at 704-949-1255 or bizdev@teamgordon.com.

TV and Radio Times – Qualifying is set for Friday, June 6th at 3:40 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV, MRN, and Sirius. The 200 laps of racing action begins on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on TNT, MRN and Sirius Satellite radio.

Eldora – “I am really excited about this race,” Gordon stated. “We had a successful test session in Tennessee a few weeks ago, and I can’t wait to get back in the car at Eldora. Not only is this a fun event for our team, but it is supporting some great causes. I really appreciate Jim Beam and Scott Bloomquist for helping us to make this event happen.”

Dover – “Our team has really been showing improvement over the past few weeks, and I think we will continue the trend throughout the rest of the season. Pocono is a challenging track, but it is also fun once you can figure out what works best in the turns. Even though we didn’t get a chance to test due to Baja 500 commitments, I think we will be okay,” Gordon commented.

Not good. It's hard to get sponsors these days, just look at Yates.

And without testing there, they better have a good idea from GEM on where to start.

GEM was pretty fast there. As long as the setup is to RG's liking, they should be ok. GEM is being paid to handle marketing/sponsor issues for RG. If they can get coverage for Carpentier, then they should have no issue getting sponsorship for RG. THey need to get on it. I think John menard really put RG into a bad situation with pulling primary sponsorship for the IRL effort late.

Is that what happened? Or did the GEM deal upset John and just not make business sense since Menards is a sponsor with DEI? When it was just RGM, it was no big deal. But to sponsor DEI and a najor competitor like GEM might have not made business sense.

Im not saying Im right, just a thought though. It does irritate me if the money went to Ed Carpenters IRL effort, thats a waste of cash...

Menards was still a primary with RG when he was at Ford along with Paul at DEI, there was no issues then. He even tried to help RG with the buy out of Yates. If anything John Menard has been quoted as saying that RG trying to go it alone was not smart from a business standpoint. RG is no longer trying to go it alone so to speak. So I do not see that being an issue. I think DEI probably wanted more dough, and John really being an IRL man wanted to get back in.

What I think he's trying to say is, since Robby sought help elsewhere, John probably thought he would venture over to DEI and go back to Chevrolet. Instead, he went to GEM and Dodge.

Yea, either way Robby has a lot of races with a blank car coming up. Bummer. And to think Robby could have been rocking in a Red Bull Toyota right now that he partially owned...

I know what he was saying, just do not think it was ever an issue.....Never has been before. It is not like John owns DEI. Just my honest opinion.

Yeah, especially when that is probably what he is going to do with GEM anyways.....The excuse then was that he did not want to give up control with the Red Bull thing. Ah well, this is not the first time RG has had issues. I would think if GEM was serious about buying into RGM in some capacity, it would serve them just as much to have RG in every race and keep the 7 car in the top 35...So I am not to concerned. If they leave him to flounder financially, then we know that there is no immenent deal.
