22re-t to 22r
I have a question/dilemma.
I have an ex-class 7 truck that I bought to race in VORRA.
The last owner used it as a prerunner and they installed a 22re-t.
I was wondering if the bottom end of the motor was the same.
Could I turn the 22re-t into just a plain ol' 22r?
Or would I be money ahead to sell the motor and start over?
Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks
Jake

The RE-T motor's have a lower compression. You could drop a carb intake on it and run with it, but it would lack bottom end.

And you will need to block off the oils feed and return lines from the turbo. The turbo pistons are only like 8.5-1 and the cams are a little different also, but the basic motors is the same.

Sweet, I really just need the the block and crank, as I'll proly use a different head, cam, pistons, etc.
Thanks for the help
Also, could the oil lines be plumbed into an oil cooler? would it be worth it?

For the oil cooler, put an adapter on the oil filter mount and run a remote filter with the cooler. The turbo feed is not a full flow port and won't do much in the way of cooling. And yes, an oil cooler is worth it.

Is the lower compression due to the heads, or is that the reason the deck is higher on certain 22R blocks?

Re: 22re-t to 22r
83-84 had the taller deck hieght, 85 and later had the shorter deck. It had nothing to do with the turbo. The turbo heads were open chamber heads (like the 83-84 heads) and the pistons were dished. 85 and later were closed chamber heads and smaller dish on the pistons. The blocks all had the bosses for the turbo oil feed and return, they were just not drilled on the non turbo units.

Could you shave the head to raise CR, add a cam, and use the FI that's on it?

THe amount that you would need to take off would lead to all sorts of other problems. If your dead set on using the head you have, get the doamed JE pistons that LC sells for a 20R head on a 22R block. The turbo combustion chamber is very similar to a 20R chamber.

When you shave the head, you tweak the cam events, thus requiring an adjustable cam gear to get it back into spec
