Medical treatment in Mexico?
Has anyone on here opted for medical treatment in Mexico(or any other country) rather than using American treatments? If so I would like to hear about the overall experience/results, whether they be good or bad. I am looking for more along the lines of treatments for more serious diseases, ie cancers.
Thanks in advance

Re: Medical treatment in Mexico?
All I can tell you is my mother went back to Colombia a few years ago and got a facelift. But she was very happy. And even with the airfare she came out way ahead since it was obviously elective. In Bogota at least, you'll find almost all physicians are US or European trained. They take it very seriously. Bogota is a very upper middle class enclave where people do not scrimp. I'm sure you'll find other countries or regions where its similar. But if your interested, I have a cousin who recently moved here (I was born here) and she might direct you to some resources.

Mexicali has great US trained docs.

No matter where you go, do your research. Make sure you aren't jaded by a MD's beside manner, you're there for the treatment, not to make a friend.
I have seen some serious trainwreck surgeries come back to the US from Mex due to many different issues- Misplaced implants, infections, foreign objects left in the surgical site, etc. These thing happen everywhere, but since you're asking about Mex, I've seen it.
When it comes to Cancer, I have no input on treatments or referrals. Just make sure you know who and what you're getting into.

Just remembered. I had my Laser Eye Surgery done in TJ- Ha. I did my research, had many referrals from friends, and it went great. Every surgeon in town freaked out when I told them, but hey, ultimately you have to be comfortable with your decision and trust your provider.

Re: Medical treatment in Mexico?
cuba has very advanced medical procedures and costs nothing. and they don't care if you're from the u.s. you have to enter from mexico cause it's still against u.s. law to go there.

Re: Medical treatment in Mexico?
A guy at work went to Mexico City and got a small bone marrow implant from a pig for his diabetes and is happy as can be.
His meds are way down and life is good, I don't think they do it in the US.

Re: Medical treatment in Mexico?
My sister had a friend she grew up with who suffered from Bone cancer as a teenager. Her parents were firm believers in alternative treatments. The tried several methods in Baja, I recall one being something to do with shells from nuts maybe. Well unfortunately the treatments could not keep up with the rapid spread, and she lost her fight, but I do recall there being some positive responses from some things they tried. I will get ahold of my sister and see if she can give some more specific info. This was 10 years ago when it happened, so I am sure things have changed.

Thanks for all of the input. If anyone has any direct info w/ some contacts please pm me the information. It would be greatly appreciated.
As for Cuba...if a US citizen was to go there, they would be offered free medical treatment?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think by 'costs nothing' he means prices are really low.
