    cage ideas. need input

    cage ideas:

    give me your input

the brown is just to try to make the design easier to see. to avoid allusions.

the green bar is under the bed.

with fuel cell: also im thinking i might "countersink" the fuell cell into the bed like the 2nd pic

    OR

(pretend the green bar isnt there and the black bars go underneat the cell with a skid plate protecting it)

squint and it looks better. this is following OFF-ROAD magazines bumper build design.

so will all this hold up in a roll, will it be safe, and is it all legal ?

    thanks

Kid, you must want this real bad to put all that effort into Paint. Not only did you put tread on your spares, but you also have them strapped down, with hooks even. lol How did you get that halo effect around your headlights?

You should start learning CAD now. Get your hands on a copy of SolidWorks. Even an old version would be good to learn on.

Here's a couple of tube ideas for you. It's good to lower your fuel cell as much as is reasonable for a lower center of gravity. The lower it is, the more you have to protect it. Since you have a long bed, I would suggest putting the cell right behind the cab, and then move your spares to the middle. Cut out your bed floor, and drop the spares down. This will help reduce body roll.

ahhahaahhah i know, i was REALLY bored. i needed to go to the store to get some tools to keep working on the trucks, so i decided to sit in front of the computer and make plans. yeah, tread on the tires was a little too much lol . youve gotten bored once havent you? whatever takes up time.

and the design you posted is the same as mine, i will have the up-tubes go to the very corners of the cab, not where they are in my drawing, the just looked out of proportion with them there. made it harder to see.

about the center of gravity stuff.... we are putting a 429 in there (we got it for free pretty much, and it had DOVE-C heads) so its going to weigh the front down alot (we will use alot of aluminum though). so i was thinking putting the fuel cell and the spares in the verry back would help prevent endo-ing. am i wrong?
i dont know much about this stuff yet so just tell me when im being stupid lol

    thanks

oh and i got the "light halo's" from photoshop. there is a brightning tool that i just put over the lights and clicked a few times
another one of those things that i really didnt need in the drawing but it took time

haha im playin with photo shop right now.. its a good way to waste time...
i have a v8 in my ranger pushed it back as far as i could, put the spare tires, fuel cells, radiator and batteries as far back and as low as possible... to get closer to a 50/50 weight..

Yuuuup looks good so far. I'm al little concerned about how you have the shocks mounted on the side of the tube. Can you put them on the underside of the tube? It looks to me that they will break right off if mouted on the side. On your other thread everything looks good in the cab except the vertical tube in the back of the cab. Take that out and put in an X bar. Also one on the roof

yeah they should go on the underside of the tube, dont know why i put them on the side. alot stronger under.

what do you mean my other thread? if your talking about the one that i asked about tucking the bars behind the sheet metal, im not copying that design.

were going to replicate Brodozer's cage. thanks brodozer

My bad I thought the white truck with the tubes tucked behind the stock sheet metal was yours, I had your truck mixed up with another. Whew I was beginning to think you were going to have a decades worth of refabbing. When you get the truck done come down to southern Cal and race with MORE boys. I'm sure if you talk to a few of your fellow VORRA racers(my engine builder is one of them) they will tell you we race very tech. and fast courses. Good luck and dont stop until its race ready.
