    Seat Requirements?

    Hi
What are the general seat and restraint requirements for installation in a off road car/truck, seat type, mounting requirements, harness, restraint, limit straps etc. so their is no problem passing any of the tech inspections?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Seat Requirements?

General rules for seats are pretty wide open. you can use any seat from a Sparco (non suspended) to a Mastercraft (suspended). 5 point belts are a must. NO Y-strap shoulder belts. My seats are mounted to tubing with 1/8 4130 welded tabs

Here is the combo I run in my class 10 and 1600 cars. Sparco evo 2 with deist 5 point belts. I would highly recommend using a head and neck retraint (ie. Hans/d-cell/R3).

Many people have opinions on what seats to run. If you dont have any experience with race seats, do a search and you will find many threads on the subject.

And please make sure your harnesses are mounted correctly. I see a lot of vehicles that have the sholder restraints mounted way to low which will actually compress your spine in the event of an accident. No bueno.

    Re: Seat Requirements?

    Thanks for the replies.

What about limit straps under the suspension seats bottom to limit its travel and keep the shoulder straps tight during a crash they required?

    Re: Seat Requirements?

As far as I'm aware there are no rules limiting the seat's suspension travel, there isn't all that much anyway. I believe the only actual rule about seats is that they have to be a fixed back seat, no recliners. A quality seat is one of the best investments you can make on a race truck, lots of guys like the Mastercraft 3gs, I prefers Sparco or Momo non-suspension seats in a race truck, just gotta strap in right, and in a pre-runner for just cruising around nothing beats a nice comfy Beard and an air conditioned Parker Pumper. Make sure you follow all the harness rules and you'll be fine.

and remember they are requiring double d rings on the seat belts. some seat belts dont come with the double d rings so you will have to put them on.

    Re: Seat Requirements?

Below is a reply I got from Mastercraft

I wanted to respond to your question in regards to the seat limit straps, Our seats have built in limit straps, I would also like to point out that we manufacture 5 point harnesses with built in springs that are SFI approved that helps keep the belts tight. I you have any other questions please let us know.

    Best regards.
