    Mike,
You started this thread in 2008. When is it going to be done? Can't wait to see it hit dirt. I noticed the MSD boxes . Where is the radio and GPS going to be mounted? Those things are pretty noisy.

    Up-date
Did some wiring, and finished up the fuel line plumbing. Finally.
Then I started on the steering, and determined that moving the upper coil-over shock outward 1", would lesson the sterring shaft u-joint angles.
I plan on steering shaft, ect, next week.

Re: New Doherty Motorsports class 8

New pictures from the last two weeks.
Last weekend I started on the steering shaft, but decided I need to add inner fender panels to shield heat from the headers towards the shocks. Although, the headers are thermal-coated on the inside.
Then I decided I needed more parts from ORW, to route the steering shaft between the shocks and the new inner panel.
Today I went out to my friend Smitty, to have him step roll the panels, as I may take them to the plater to have them thermo-coated too.
Yesterday, after not able to finish the steering, I started laying out the throttle linkage. Enclosed photo of new gas pedal, and yes, I traced my own boot for the pattern.

Also out a Smitty’s I had him do some TIG welding for me. For years, I have been plagued with having to remove the K&N breather on the valve cover, to add oil.
That operation required a 5/16 nut driver to take the filter off. So we removed the old “riser” on the valve cover, and welded a new oil filler and screw cap. I raised this new filler, as there is NEVER a funnel around when you need to add oil during a race !
And I am changing the breather to route below the engine, in case of a roll-over. Note the #10 stainless line between valve covers, and the new #12 flared fitting for the new breather line.

And lastly, I had to take a photo of the valve train, since the valve covers were off.
675 horsepower, under those Pontiac heads, just resting for the last 5 years, waiting to be fired up again !

Re: New Doherty Motorsports class 8

This weekend I spent hours fabbing and figuring the throttle linkage. Lots of labor there, just to get the pedal and carb to work together. Earlier in the week, I decided to add two more up-rights for the inside of the spare tire holders. (Note: the string as guides to get the two new hoops, to match the existing hoops). I worked some on the fuel filler neck. And I also had the oil filler neck extended up, to where oil can be added in a hurry (during a race) without stumbling around to find a funnel. I always wanted to do that extention on my old truck. I will continue on.............

Re: New Doherty Motorsports class 8

A Geiser Trophy Truck hood, has the top designed for a set-back engine. In class 8, the engine has to be in the stock location. So, yesterday, after taking the summer off from working out in my shop, I cut up the hood, to re-configure the area for air-cleaner clearence. Ive had this hood for four years, and wondered how I was going to do this. Turns out, it wasnt that big of a deal.

Yes. I still work on it when I have extra money, and time. Attached photo's of the new oil cooler and tranny cooler, plumbing, and mre panels. Both coolers are Fluidyne, (from ORW) and this set-up is exactly the same as my old clas 8. It worked great then, it should work good on this truck.

I got all the front shock reservior mounts finished up last weekend. I used THRE on each shock (have you ever had one come loose and bounce around under the hood ?) And of course I had to notch up my new inner fender panels to make them work (good thing I had the step-roll done in far enough from the edge to not interfere with the weld-on mounts).
