New Doherty Motorsports class 8
Enclosed couple of photo's taken around July 1st. Construction was started around Jan 1st ('07). After the sale of my old class 8, I spent too much time (a year) helping out other racer friends go racing, and not building my own ! I've been holding off starting this thread, until I had more done. It's been slow going, after working all day, and then spend a few hours every-night out in the shop. No CAD design, no laser-jet cutting, and lots of help from my friends. As you can see the cuts on the glass doors, I had to shorten the TT body, to fit the rule-mandated class 8 wheel-base. Now with the body located, I am busy bending up tubes. I will up-date this thread, as I get more done........

As requested, I dug through some of my first photos and came across some
spindal / up-right pictures. I posted that I had to locate the body, to start bending. Well I had to build all the major suspention parts first, to locate the wheels, to locate the body. I will keep posting a few pictures at a time. I also have to Thank my friend Nick Vanderwey, as I used his jigs, and design, to make all my front susp. parts.

Hey OldSchool8, that welding machine in that picture there ... I think I know what kind of weldor that is ...
... It's one of those weldors that you get from a know-it-all kid that had ideas of four-link suspension on a class-3 Jeep way back when it was illegal.
Y'know .. back around 1982 or so? Yup .. it's one of them type of weldors all right.
Except of course that one looks all new and shiney and such.
So, wonder what happened to that punk you got it from? Got any idea where a fella could get a welding machine like that?

(Hi Mike ... check my profile ...)
Oh ... and I see you still almost know how to build a race truck. (haahaahaa!!!) Ahh .. you'll get it right one of these days. (kidding of course ... outstanding workmanship bro, even for a plumber!).
Muffy says Hello (it's been what ... 25 years? The last race we chased for you was Barstow 1984 I think).
I build this stuff these days ... www.Farndurk.com And streetbikes too (no choppers).
So ... that truck of yours .. nice work ... y'know ... not bad for a rookie.

Say hi sometime ......
Farny.

Re: New Doherty Motorsports class 8
I've been so busy this Fall, I havent been able to do much work on my new class 8. BUT lately, I HAVE been able to spend more quality time out in the shop at night, and this weekend we finally got some fiberglass work done. The Trophy Truck body I bought, was made for trucks with a longer wheelbase than I built. I knew this buying it, and figured we could make it work. Class 8 trucks are SUPPOSED to be built to the SCORE rule (in reference to wheelbase). Of course there is a LOT of work left to do on the body, and a LOT of work left to do under the fiberglass. I will be really happy if I ever get this project done !

Re: New Doherty Motorsports class 8
Enclosed new photos tonight. After going to the Geiser X-mas Party, and the "theme" of their new trucks being = weight, I decided to go home and work through my X-mas vacation, cutting apart a bunch of fab work that I never really liked anyway. (it actually took me 4 weeks) The first two photo's show the OLD rear shock mounts (posted earlier). The last 3 photo's are of the new and aproved shock mounts. I put all the parts that I cut off on the scale, and it equaled over 100 pounds. Now that's a diet ! Readers of the thread may recall that I had a design problem, that conflicted with the SCORE CAGE rules. Buy the time I fixed that, it had added a bunch of extra tubes. So it took approx 150 hrs, but its a much cleaner, and lighter set-up.
