Apology from the guy that trashed your names at Pomona
First off, an apology to a few teams for trashing your names on the microphone at this weekend's CORR event. The backstory is I am an announcer for rockcrawling but have friendships with a number of teams running in CORR. Scott Rehn welcomed me to the event to give a little history on a few of those people and to help him with pit reports after major incidents go down, like Wallace's or Oberg's early accidents. Saturday went pretty smooth as I could take the time to talk to those guys, get to know the pronunciation of their names, get their emotions and stories and then come back up to the announcer's booth and relay the story to the audience.
Sunday, Scott was presented with a situation that he really needed to attend to. He asked if I could cover the qualification and buggy classes for a bit and told me why. I took on the task, but without anyone having a chance to help me with the pronunciation of the list of names that was well over 100 long. Take that long of a list of names you've never heard before (I'm relatively new to CORR) and read em off. You'll find you're stuck on more than a couple, I had no choice but to either not say them at all, or just run with it...I obviously ran with it.
Some people were very gracious and came by the booth to tell me a couple of the mistakes I'd made. Trust me, I try to be perfect when I announce so I did appreciate the corrections. The rest, well, I just didn't know if I was wrong or right on them as nobody said anything. I'm positive I missed a number of you and that's why I'm posting up. I hope you understand that the situation I ended up in wasn't easy and NOT planned by either Scott nor I. If it was, we both would have been better preparred. Overall, I THINK I got the high majority right, but for sure, some are still wondering, "Who was that idiot that couldn't say my name???" Now you know.
As for me...I REALLY enjoyed meeting so many of you in my Saturday interviews in the pits. Like in rockcrawling, humilty and friendship is spread across the spectrum of classes and teams and it was an amazing experience to be a part of it all. I enjoyed the time I had and sharing your stories with the fans.
I guess the closer is really a THANKS to Scott for inviting me to join him on the mic, a thanks to many of the teams for inviting me into your pits even though you were busy, and my apologiy for any names or facts I got wrong...it was a whirlwind weekend for sure.
Regards,

Dustin, you helped more than you'll ever know. You covering for myself on Sunday was a godsend to CORR's new friend which I hope you had a chance to meet even if for a brief moment. All i can say is, "welcome" the ever growing CORR family.

Announcing is extremely hard to do .. I have worked alongside our AMA D37 announcer and have assisted him with name pronunciation on many occasions...
What I have found is probably the hardest part of announcing is to jump headfirst into something that you don’t necessarily attend often – it’s hard to keep talking to basically what feels like... YOURSELF! You did well all things considered!
