What do you do when your driver/co-driver radio doesn't work...

when in the middle of a Rally race?? You use your fingers and jam them in front of your drivers eyes to indicate the degree of the upcoming turn...Pic of Silvio Alva and his co-dog Benjamin Slocum with Ben using his fingers (not giving the "peace" sign to the cameraman) at this past weekends Ojibwe Forests Rally in Minnesota. Alva won the G2 (small displacement, 4-cyl) class while Travis Pastrana took the overall when Ken Block did some last minute arbor work on the final stages...

Better than My method, I just smack them in the helmet to get them to slow down.

Hand Signals is really quite an effective method of communication. We experienced this issue first hand in the 2007 Baja 500.

lining up in staging we quickly realized that there was a problem with the Drivers Intercom. We tried switching helmets (3 seater : 3 Helmets) but were running out of time to thoroughly trouble shoot as the cars took off from the line we were waved up to the start line. Thrashing and scrambling to get all our gear back on and harnessed back in, Jason McNeil made the call to deal with it. Luckily I am in expert in communications, I quickly devised a system of hand signals to relay course notes, GPS Markers, and such to Jason. Not backing off his pace a single mph there was alot going on in the car espicially for me with the only clean view of the GPS, navigating the course through silty river beds with no visibility, communicating with the chase crew, and tracking all the gauges. I had a great time...

MDR Majave 250 last year. Intercoms were down.
