X-18 Intimidator Discussion Thread
I've noticed mention of the X-18 in a number of threads lately and it was suggested that a new thread be started, so I figured I'd start one.
With that said, let me get the disclaimer out of the way...
I do not have any connection to the mfg of the X-18 or any of their dealers, suppliers, or anyone else involved with Predator Motor Corp that I'm aware of. I have spoken with them at a few shows and been by one the the dealers about a year ago. I do have an interest in this vehicle and have been following it over the past year or two. Given the chance, I would jump at the opportunity to race one of these to see how it does.
When I spoke to them at the SSSS, they said that the 09 model is being built to SCORE specs utilizing 1.25" .095 Cromoly tubing with an updated chassis design based on recomendations by SCORE.
So, for those unaware of this vehicle, I will include some general info publically available from their website.

Re: X-18 Intimidator Discussion Thread
It's my understanding that the chassis and a-arms/trailing arms are built in China. I would assume many other parts are too. The parts are then shipped here and the buggy is assembled in California. Some of the parts are not made in China such as:
Vogtland Shocks: While a German Co, they have facilities here in Cali, so parts may have been mfg at either location.
BTR Wheels: The company is based out of LV. Not sure where the wheels are made.
Simpson Products: Made in the USA, AFAIK.
MSD Ignition: Made in the US. New Mexico I think.
Wright Gearbox: Lovely Riverside, CA.
Comet Clutch: Indiana, USA.
Team Clutch: Minnesota, USA. NOT CHINA!!!
CBM Motors: Ontario, CA.

I've also read comments discussing the quality of the welds. There are a few pics on their website that appear to be decent welds, though after PC, it makes it hard to tell. One of the welds in the 2nd pic looks a little undercut to me though.

It need B pillars and diagonal members at the rear of the cab at minimum before I'd press the right pedal down.

If the chassis is built in China. I will not get in it!

Re: X-18 Intimidator Discussion Thread
For the price they seem to be a tremendous bargain. I'm not sure about racing them but they look like a great way to have fun with your friends pre running and playing in the sand.......
