Oil / Trans Cooler Fan Question
Should I wire my cooler fans through a thermostat sending unit in one of the plugs in the cooler or should I just run them off the ignition / switch?

Re: Oil / Trans Cooler Fan Question
Running them off a thermostatic switch will reduce the load on the electrical system and help keep them in a good operating temp.
That being said, nothing beats a manual switch for reliability.

Re: Oil / Trans Cooler Fan Question
after thinking about it, I was thinking of running them off a thermostatic switch with a manual override switch.

Re: Oil / Trans Cooler Fan Question
that's what we have. We use an on/off switch, and when the switch is off the fan comes on automatically, when the switch is on the fan comes on regardless of temp. If the fan is stuck on for some reason you pull the CB.

Re: Oil / Trans Cooler Fan Question
I lost an air cooled motor at this years V2R partially because the fan on my oil cooler stopped working and we didn't notice the temp change fast enough. From now on I'm leaving the fan wired directly to the ignition (via a relay). Hardly ever do you run into a motor running too cool in a racing situation. I can't imagine an engine getting too cool DURING a race. I guess maybe in a water cooled situation it might take a while to warm up if it was wired directly. Did I just talk my way around in a circle?
