    what are the options, what is the best box for the money? what size? what about a used one?

    has anybody heard of the tatum 300m rack? is it good, or should I move to howe? fortin heard is really expensive

    Heh...sorry no one filled you in. Firstly, they're affectionately called "rack and pinions". Any of the aforementioned would be acceptable. I'm sure if one were to look more into it they'd see that Tatum racks are more common with play cars and Howes are more common among race cars. If you're on a budget, I'm sure you'd be just fine with the Tatum. This place has them on sale for $900:

    If you watch the classifieds, you can often find the Howes for around $11-1200. I've never seen a used Tatum for sale.
