    Do rules matter, really?

    Do rules matter, really?

“Let ‘em race” is a chant that we often hear when a vehicle doesn’t conform to the rules for the class it looks like it belongs in or is racing in. But, by “letting them race” are we really hurting the class and the sport?

What if a 5-1600 shows up with the rear wheel openings trimmed back above the ˝” below the fender bolthole limit – let ‘em race?

What if a ˝-1600 shows up with a 5spd Bus Box in it – let ‘em race?

What if a 7X shows up with non-stock steering knuckles/uprights with heims or rod ends – let ‘em race?

What if a 7 Open shows up with after market fuel injection – let ‘em race?

What if a Class 8 show up with a motor that does not match the frame year and model – let ‘em race?

What if a Trophy Truck show up with a motor make that does not match the Body Emblem/Make – let ‘em race?

What if a Class 1 car showed up with an aerodynamic wheel covering body on it – let ‘em race?

These are several non-specific issues and examples of violations of current class rules that exist in vehicles that are currently racing.

What would you do, let ‘em race?

As far as I understood the rules, those items could be of "any manufacture" not just factory......

hhmmm. Good topic. IMO- Rules are created to make racing fair and safe. On a case by case situation, sure let 'em race UNLESS the violation is a potental safety issue. I would say, just don't let them be eligible for placing/points/etc. Don't send them home though. Let them run (as long as it is not a safety issue) then go home and fix what need be.

Yeah let 'em race... with an aster-ix for rules violation so no points earned. There are rules for specific reasons to keep the classes competitive and equal.

What about letting the drivers entered in that class decide, (vote) ?

    Re: Do rules matter, really?

Rules create 2 things....A level playing field and expensive racing....

It's not fair to people who spend more for a 145 HP air cooled engine than a 550 horsepower V8 to allow the rules to be bent......It cost a lost of money to stick to a certain set of rules. The people who desire this level playing field and spend the added expense to race with fellow competitors within a set of specific rules deserve to have their class rules up help.

The classes are all set up to address very specific desires and applications.....If you keep making exceptions and changes your gonna end up with a bunch of class 1 cars with funny front ends and motors.....

I think Rory was right on with the SPORTSMAN answer....You can do whatever you want as cheaply as you want with very few rules to limit you or drive up expenses........Otherwise stick to the rules.........Or race class 1 or TT where you can do whatever you want and SPEND a bazillion dollars....

PS....One of the stock car teams I crewed for had a very advanced hidden nitrous system. We won a lot, it never really felt like winning to me.......They were always so happy about it, I always felt kinda stupid........Maybe that's just my default position....Stupidity it works for me!!!!
    Good Grief
