Do rules matter, really?

I say no, I have been torn down more times than I remember with 0 issues which means I build my cars legal and to the letter of the rule book. Because some idiot decides to do it their way instead of the rule book to me he should go elsewhere. Why have a book or teck at all if they say Just let them race. Our sport has had so many winners who should have been stripped of everything because there cars are so far from what the book says. Savage has ruined many classes just because they lined his pockets, all calls are based on what mood he is in which ever day. It is a joke. In the 70s the rule book was followed like a bible, when Savege who I have known for over 30 years took over it has been nothing but a dishonest, mood deciding joke.. Somebody showing with a illegal car should not ever happen, it is not hard to follow the rule book. They should leave it on the trailer, and if found out disgraced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I agree with ultrablew's comment - if safety isn't an issue then let them race... but only for fun.

I have to agree that the rules are the rules...non safety issue offer them a chance to run sportsman, no point,no money, and no placing. IF you let them run the class "just this time" you are really hurting everyone that adheres to the rules and races by them. Great topic.

What if a 5-1600 shows up with the rear wheel openings trimmed back above the ˝” below the fender bolthole limit – let ‘em race? If the rules says they can't do this then NO don't let them race.

What if a 7X shows up with non-stock steering knuckles/uprights with heims or rod ends – let ‘em race? I am pretty sure this is not a rule so YES they can race.

What if a 7 Open shows up with after market fuel injection – let ‘em race? This is why I think BITD had the right idea. they made 7"OPEN" OPEN... Then score followed with the new class 6.

What if a Class 8 show up with a motor that does not match the frame year and model – let ‘em race? Is this a rule? If so this is a very dumb rule... Why? Well because in a stock class like 7s you can change your engine...

What if a Trophy Truck show up with a motor make that does not match the Body Emblem/Make – let ‘em race? Also a great idea in BITD The engine does not need to match the body. Do trophy trucks run factory Ford or Chevy blocks? Or are the blocks made by World, Dart, etc... Either way the engine does not match the body/emblem. Not only that why should they be able to change the transmission?

What if a Class 1 car showed up with an aerodynamic wheel covering body on it – let ‘em race? Class one is OPEN WHEEL. Not COVERED Wheel so No they should not be able to race... Are there any class one cars doing this?

Great topic by the way! This year I raced in the stock full class and I would say most people cheat in this class. I am not complaining at all because I do not feel you need to cheat to stay up front. I just find it funny how when you talk to some of the guys they say "IT IS THE SPIRIT OF THE CLASS" lol...

TT's should have the engine block match the grille and body style of the truck. You are right about what block manufacturers are used Jerry so it is hard to say someone has a Chevy or Ford block. The only real way to tell the difference between a Chevy or Ford style aftermarket block is the position of the distributer.

There will always be those that try and "push the envelope" to have an edge. If a stated clear rule is broken, no those teams should not be rewarded by being aloud to run for points/places/etc. But, what is the harm in letting them run in their class, take their money and have more to pay out to the rule followers and help the cause (if they chose to run anyway)? Don't abuse me, it's just a question....

I think the point is.........Imagine if you went to all the time, work and expense to follow the rules and then got beat by some guy who didn't......Rules are rules....If people don't wanna worry about rules and such then TT, Class 1 and Sportsman are the place to be......Or even class 10......

What about letting the drivers entered in that class decide, (vote) ?

i believe this happened in class 7 at san felipe in 03 or 04 Jernigan's trucks bodys were to wide and they got all the class 7 drivers to sign a petition saying they would allow it to pass this one race but must be fixed by the next.. small rules like this are ones on one would have a problem signing a petition for.

most rules are there for a reason, to keep classes competitive and not just the one with more money wins. some are for sponsorship reasons (FORD = FORD. CHEVY= CHEVY)

Rules are also there to determine what class you will be in, if you break the rules for that class you are now in a different class, you shouldn't be expecting everyone who built vehicles to a set of rules to just allow you to dis regard the rules and expect to come run anyways.

class 7 trucks that back halfed the frame or is WAY to wide, go run trophy truck or sportsman, class 1s have proved you dont need a v8 to have hp and run with the big boys

1/2 1600 with a bus trans.. that would be one slow class 12


class 1 that has a body... now i have been saying the opposite for a while now... there are some tts out there i can not distinguish to be a production body and think should be running as a class 1..

As far as I understood the rules, those items could be of "any manufacture" not just factory......

this is how it reads in the new book...

SUSPENSION COMPONENTS

Spindles may be of any manufacturer and may be
reinforced. Upright or knuckle must remain stock.
