Spicer 297x axle joint, 1350 Dshaft Ujoint size similarity?
Leave it to a small town to not have any 297s on hand to compare... the cap diameters APPEAR to be the same size, 1.18" but that's all I could find in my midnight Googling. I'm hoping someone here knows the widths of both...?
I'm HOPING to find a way(using scrapyard/off-the-shelf parts even) to mate a Dana 44/other outer axle shaft to a 1350 driveshaft...

Steal the Neapco book from Autozone like I did. Everything you ever wanted to know about U-joints. They wont know it's gone since they can't find it in the first place.
I'll look for you when I get to the shop.

That's funny!
But as I walked into work this morning it hit me: Corvette! I BELIEVE they use a Dana 44 centersection. So I assume it's safe to think they use a 44 ujoint as well...meaning I can simply come up with a flange to mount adjusted vette shafts to my 091 busbox flanges and then use any 44 outers/hubs of my choice! Hell...the vette stuff would be dope if you can find it cheap enough!

they will not really interchange - the journals are different and caps use inside clips etc- Jess

I don't recall the Vette stuff plunging.
The axle was used as the upper link.
Look for CV's instead. You'll be money ahead. And you don't need the "race clearanced' jobbies either. just good cages.

Do you actually READ any of the threads you post in? We KNOW they don't plunge. That's why I'm talking about them...for non-plunging, non-CV drivelines possibilities...

The vett stuff is Okay- for what its used for limited suspension travel -and good handling on the street- Jess

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe others that read this stuff for the first time don't know they don't plunge.. Settle down.
Now what type of suspension are you thinking about using them on?

Re: Spicer 297x axle joint, 1350 Dshaft Ujoint size similarity?
I have no idea! I'm just gathering every tidbit I can while trying to put it all together. I have to know what I CAN do before I do anything. Sucks, my car is just sitting out there waiting...
But in a paper sack, here's what I'd LIKE to do: Whatever it takes to run your standard, run-of-the-mill 5x5.5 Dana 44 spindles, hubs, bearings and stubshafts.
But being the first rear-engine car I've ever owned makes this 9 times more difficult and makes me 11.6 times more ignorant!
But I DO know that plunging is bad. What I'm not quite grasping yet is the not being able to use plunging CVs in a non or minimal plunge suspension design(A-arm, 5 link), I still don't know much about all the micro-stub setups and what that's all about, only they get expensive quickly and I'm not here to see how much money I can spend. Quite the opposite, really. Seems like the popular thing around here is to brag about how much so-and-so has in this and that. I can only seem to get my kicks by seeing what I can create out of mostly nothing...
