ok, another stupid question from the newbie, is this something that gets downloaded to any gps or is there a specific one? (I have used them a couple times but don't own a gps)

IRC tracking is a stand alone device that must be renced from IRC. You buy the mount for your race vehicle and rent the device for the event. You pick it up at contingency and they are there to remove it from your vehicle at the end of the event.

ok, is it something that has a display for you to see where your at on the track or is it just so your position and route can be tracked?
if it is the later is there a way to get course map on a gps or is it just a print out page that is used?

IRC is for online tracking outside of the car. They track the cars during the race. You will be able to follow racers in the Chupacabra 300 this weekend on the tracking sites listed. Printing the map won't do you much good, but a GPS is not required for most races.

We did our first few races without a GPS (well we had one for mileage tracking only) and used the course markings for navigation. We also used a small flip cards with notes on gotacha around the track. Marking the miles on a card and upcoming danger spots helped but nothing beats a GPS.
