I use the 540c mounted right behind the wheel on my 1-1600.
Lowrance is discontinuing the GM540c and GM840c. They dropped the price on them but aren't offering any price protection on what we have in stock (which we paid MORE than $399 for) so we hadn't dropped our price yet.
They are being replaced by only 1 unit for off road use. The new product is named HDS 5m Baja. It's a 5 inch screen, it will be a complete redesign unit with an internal GPS receiver with an option of an external receiver that will have a faster GPS pick up for off road use. The current receiver up dates every second the new will up date 5 times a second. The new GPS Antenna is LGC-4000.
I'd still recommend a 540c and wouldn't wait to get the new one. It's not liking waiting for the new iphone or bigger better TV, I'd still use 480c's and 6500c's if I could, they seemed to work much better!!!
We will honor the $399.95 and $999.95 prices too!

Thinking about where to buy. If you are not an expert on setting up a GPS, loading maps trails and danger icons etc. IMHO you should consider buying the unit from PCI. At every race I have been to there is always a bunch of guys at the PCI truck getting help on setting up their system. You may pay a little more but you will get the help you will need to actually be able to use it. You won't get that help from an internet discounter or e-bay. I can't say about some of the other vendors, they may be good as well. I can tell you that PCI has never let me down yet.

The 480c does seem to work better than the 540c, go figure.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll give Rhiannon a call over at PCI. It seems she knows what's going on and doesn't mind to share with everyone. I too belive in supporting those Co.'s who support racing. I need all the help I can get!

Our team is a big supporter of PCI. They go way beyond to help you out in anything they can and always seem to be there when you need them.

Why P.C.I.? How about going thru tech and realalizing that your radio is not working properly, P.C.I. checks it out and says there is something broken internally. Think you are screwed for the race, NO! P.C.I. has loaner radio's in the trailer and programs them to your frequency, helps you install it in the car and you are racing the next morning with perfect communications. Support those that support us!!
