Hey, my name is Andy...
... and I used to be an asphalt-only snob until I started to seriously follow the Dakar rally. To be honest, much of that had to do with VW's recent involvement with the Touareg as I live in a VW-only family (3 daily drivers, and 1 track car in progress). Now it's like a disease.
My only experience in off-road racing is from our SAE Baja project as a crew member last year. Now I'm the guy that's leading the project and doing all the drawings. Desert Racing? Ha! The closest I've been to a desert is Chicago (that should explain everything!) An epic 3-day drive down for the Baja would be nice though...
I'm currently in the last semester of an Engineering Tech program (a nice blend of design, manufacturing and fabrication), but looking to complete Mech Eng studies @ Uni in the coming years. During that time, I'm hoping to build a few more SAE Baja vehicles, maybe even completing a custom buggy with 450-500cc ATV-power to mess-around in the hills near the family cottage.
I just finished reading all 47+ pages of DUMP's TT build... worth every minute of the 2.5hrs that I spent reading through it. It's given me a few design ideas for the semi-trailing arms of our project.
