Leave the rules alone. VW and Honda motors both have their areas where they do really well. For example a drag race. My VW will pull off the start (more Torque). The hondas will pull on the top end (more HP). My Car can do 100mph. Hutchins Im guessing 115mph. Does that bother me? Answer: No. Reason: how many times do you go over 90mph in a desert race in class 10? Answer: Not that often.
Yes I will be at Parker.

50+ HP difference. You're comparing your single seat air-cooled to a Honda. Fair enough. When most of the cars in class 10 are 2-seat cars they're carrying 400+ lbs more than you. For the majority 2-seat cars 50 HP means 15 mph on the top. In a head wind 25% more HP gets you down the road a whole lot faster and farther than 25% less HP. Bottom-end torque is great. Honda's are getting just as much torque or more than air-cools today.

A couple years ago at Laughlin, after day 1, a class 10 car was 3rd OA. Beaten only by Herder and a trophy truck. The 10 car had a Honda motor and if you asked the racer how he finished the first day 3rd OA he’d tell you 200 HP and lite weight. Power to weight ratio.

I dont have the time to research to much, however I am sure Ashcraft could help me out, what was your lap time at Primm this year? How did you stack up to the class 1 and trophy truck guys? If i remember correctly your lap time was one of the fastest? Also didnt that car, race in class 1 (with hardesty) at the baja 500 a few years ago and finish really well?
Yeah, your right steve those air cooled motors do need more hp! I am not trying to bash you however I race with CJ and I know that every race we have to "Drive" as hard as we can to compete. Its still a drivers class, air cooled or not!

So what do the motor builders say??? How much hp can they get out of a 2l or a 2.2l motor? And I guess it might be important to know how much that will run and life expectancy.

Re: Sad day for class 10....
WOW talk about a thread getting off topic! I was kinda just asking where everyone was at, not lets start the air cooled water cooled battle again! Carrerars and Canadae should man up and come to BAP. laughlin was fun when it was the bigger 13 mile course, but now, it just isnt too fun in a limited car in my opinion. You want to come race a fun race that has competition (unless you are going to laughlin for the lack of competition in cl. 10), thats actually in the desert, come to BAP!! That goes for you too Ashcraft! But to address the digression of this thread, I don't think the engine rules have anything to do with the lower car counts, leave the rules alone.

Re: Sad day for class 10....
we go anywhere from 1,200-1,500 RACE miles on a motor before it goes back.
