Re: 5 Cars get no respect!
There was a car at Laughlin that ran the diesel. To bad they rolled it and threw a rod.

Re: 5 Cars get no respect!
I love the 5 cars.... I'd love a 5 car myself.... Can not manage the coin though.
In the mid 90's I got to hang with the Norris Racing Team... Great guys..... Mike Sr. took me for a ride through some whoops and I was amazed! Have loved Desert racing ever since.

Or getting the turbo diesel approved? Would get VWs attention maybe some money and more entries at one series?
Two or three months ago you would have gotten a different story from me ,but beleave me the type four is the way to go (now that we have our head problems fixed)
the 2.0 can only be built to a max of 2400cc and to make good hp takes big bucks , beleave me we exhausted this effort ,the diesel i dont know, good question
dont get me wrong ,you can spend big bucks on a type four (mine is a perfect example, and the reason for almost trowing in the towel at one point)but it is the way , way , way biggest bang for the buck

If you guys do a little research you'll see that Pab has won a bunch of races in a 5/1600 including a couple of old school Mint 400's with the car count up in the bazillion...............His Dad won the 1000 in a 5/1600 and a bunch of other races too.....
I bet King Dave can tell you guys a bunch of stories about Pab and buggies.........
They are both (Pab and Big Daddy)Baja bug dorks and there just ain't no way around it.........
Sounds to me like Pab is pretty proud of his dune hoppper days...........

Re: 5 Cars get no respect!
First off this it is great to see this forum on 5 cars. I have been running my car for about 5 years now and the class has had its ups and downs. It has started off very strong this year and we are hoping for even more growth. People are becoming more interested in the class, the cars, the coalition. Jim Varshay and myself have worked hard at growing the class. We have gotten companies to support the class and from my experience has helped make it much more affordable. Anyone interested in running class 5 or currently running please get up with myself or Jim and we can get you in touch with our contacts. There are great deals out there, and a lot of these stemmed from John Criswell. There team did a lot of R&R on these cars and we are able to use that for all the cars out there. We talked a lot as group of racers with the jet team and we able to cut costs down.
I hope more people join the class and have the "old school" fun that we do as a group. At races we pit together and help each other, before during and after the races. At the end of the day have a good campfire and tell lies to each other in all good fun. I can think of another class that has the camaraderie of this class of cars and people.

He has... Big D has been my "consultant" for the current build. I took the car to him when I first bought it... such a nice guy he didn't want to "hurt my feelings" and just pointed stuff out and would say things like "you might want to have a look at some of the other cars" and "this doesn't seem right" "it's a nice car though". LOL, King Dave is the best.
He basically pointed out everything that was wrong with the car.
He tells a pretty good story too! I didn't know PAB was so old!

Re: 5 Cars get no respect!
OHH yea...car counts were huge, I won the mint in 84 and second in 83 and both years had car counts over 40 cars.
