OHH yea...car counts were huge, I won the mint in 84 and second in 83 and both years had car counts over 40 cars.

Here is my view. I currentely am racing in a 5-1600. The next obvious step would be to a 5 unlimited..... right?? Well I as do most would rather go to 1600 where there is more competition and the cars ARE faster if you look at the lap times. I began a thread a while back on why the 1600's were outperforming the 5 unlimited's. The fact is when you roll them there isnt an entire makeover needed in most cases and that is where the competiton is again. I do believe that if 5's were more popular, new and innovative ideas would make this an even faster class.

cody your comparing Barstow lap times and yes theres a hand full that will beat the 5,s now compare laps or finishing positions at other desert races and your 5,s are up there 2007 orgf 500 it was fast and smooth in 3 laps i had all the 16,s and all but 1 10 car passed and drew and some others are way up there in position on point to point races.and theres not much more new and innovative ideas left unless you cheat and i can spot a long car a mile away lol .theres more new cars now than there has been in 5 years and these cars have some serious parts on them .it wont be long before the 16,s get whooped at barstow that is if someone wants to beat there 5 car to death to prove a point.

Steve is absolutly right, the 1600 guys are fast in barstow and a couple other tight technical ,really rough races ,but every where else, its a really different story

I actually enjoy watching the 1600 cars racing, and think its a great competitive class. The thing I really enjoy about the 5 unlimited cars are they are all different and have personality. the arent a cookie cutter, look alike class like so many of the others are. When you pull up to the gas station with a 5 car on the trailer, you will get all types walk up and tell stories about owning one or about a beetle they used to have etc.

I don't know what it is about a 5 unlimited car with a type 4 but they look and sound so good to me. I will always stop to check out a 5 car, guess maybe I'm old school. Oh wait I guess I'm just old and they remind of when I was young
