    Re: Trophy Trucks and Bikes

This discussion comes up about every month and the same arguments are made over and over. There's no perfect solution. It's a dangerous sport. You can't eliminate all risk. Whether it's due to a passing TT or C1, or a booby trap, or weather, or spectators on the course, people are always going to get hurt. 99.99%of the time a motorcycle gets passed by a 4 wheel vehicle nobody gets hurt. My guess is that most of the injuries that happen to bike guys have nothing to do with getting passed. Personally I think the way it's done now in SCORE is the best solution to a problem where a good solution doesn't really exist. Guys on bikes know the risks when the enter the race and should be accountable for the consequences.

Here's what happeneds to a bike when caught by a car. substitute the cars for TT's and add 40mph and an extra 1500lbs

My three year old "wants" to do all kinds of things. That doesn't mean I let Him.

SCORE is too dangerous to race for Novice Bike racers!!!!!! Try ZR promotions if you want to race in Mexico, I've raced a couple and had a GREAT time and there were no TT or at least the ones that drive at "Mach Chicken". When I raced bikes I raced in the Exp to pro level and still worried about TT's. Been there done that. STUPID KILLS.... Have you signed your organ donor cards??

Used to be every time I would see this sort of thing I would get more and more frustrated, now I just get pissed off.

I'm hoping more people will respond because I would love to link to this thread so these guys can see this from a car point of view.

Am I the only person that thinks what this bike rider from Oregon said is rediculous? He said the 1st few TT's were already passed his bike by the time he got on, and when he saw trucks coming up behind him, he put his head down and tried to go faster because he "thought" he could outrun the trucks. The smarter thing to do in that situation is get off the road! There is a 6000 pound truck coming for you, I suggest that you get out of the way, right? Everyone always complains about catching bikes and the bikes turning around, seeing you, then running thinking they can outrun you.

Craig, I would appreciate if you can let him know what us TT guys think of him deciding to try and "outrun" us. That is truly how people (bike riders) get hurt. If you are caught, you're caught. Move off the road and continue when it is safe.

Maybe we should be something like this at the starting line, like a big sign that Sal hold's up in front of the bikes before they leave the line...

    Re: Trophy Trucks and Bikes

These are probably the same guys that the DA is always helping out......

We see them all the time out prerunning parked on the side of the course with a flat and no tube and tire irons or out of gas with no plan other than "I thought I would make it." I carry around 12 0Z. water bottles full of gas just for these guys......Sometimes we carry tubes too, it's the worst when they don't even have tire irons.......

They might even be the same guys that convince their good looking 24 year old girl friend that it's perfectly fine to be THEE chase crew and sit in the desert by themselves all day in the middle of nowhere........

I was young once and incredibly confident that nothing bad could ever happen to me or my friends.......Then it did........Now I'm a middle aged freak show who hates to see people go to Mexico unprepared.......

I love the bikes and I think they are the bravest racers on the face of the earth. I just wish that some of them would buddy up with an experienced Baja vet........

Fastest thing I ever saw was Mikey Childress prerunning through the whoops where the course gets close to the 5 just north of San Felipe.....I seriously could not believe how freaking fast he was going....Flying through a whooped out turn waving at people with 1 hand as he flew by. That's the only time a bike ever gave me goosebumps......That guy is FAST!

Hold off a TT? That's retarded and dangerous thinking. If they are catching you, there is a problem already.

Tim, I tried to find it, but so far no luck. I'm pretty sure it was shot from BJ's chopper but it is no longer on BJ's web site. If anyone else could find it I would love to share it with these guys.

    Re: Trophy Trucks and Bikes

2007 BK1, we were somewhere south of Loreto in a long single track section and came up on a bike. My co-dog laid on the horn as soon as we got somewhat close to him. He stayed on the horn for another couple of miles at around 90mph. I got as close to him as possible just so he could hear the horn, but nothing! This guy never turned his head for 10 miles. I was getting real pissed cuz I'm thinking this guys got an Ipod cranked up or he's deaf (which isn't a good handicap to have when racing a bike in Baja) As much as I wanted to give him a little tap on the fender just to say "HI" we backed it down and finally passed him when the course jumped onto a highway section. Since that episode, we now run the "Pab Siren" I'm sure if we had it then, it would have drowned out his Ipod
