???? the DA = modern day Rough Riders ????

ok ok before i get totally flamed for this thread i just want to say: NOBODY COULD EVER REPLACE WHO THE ROUGH RIDERS ARE/WERE NOR COULD THEY EVER REPACE WHAT THEY DID FOR THE SPORT.

    ...ok on with the thread....

ive been thinking over the past couple weeks about how much the Desert Assassins have changed off-road racing as we know it. yes there have been many groups and many other people that have put an impact on the sport, but in my OPINION i dont think ANY PERSON/TEAM has changed the sport like the DA has since the days of the Rough Riders. if you look carefully at the DA you will realize that they do in fact share A LOT of the same traits and qualities when it comes to off road racing.

No, their cars/trucks arn't all painted the same. No, they dont all drive trucks! in fact 95% of them are BUGGY DORKS! and even the ones that do drive trucks are true buggy dorks at heart! No, they dont have the backing of the worlds leading car/truck maker...but they do in fact have the backing of the winningest tire in OFF ROAD HISTORY! yokohama!

the DA is made up of MANY great people.. so excuse me if i miss anybody! ...and all DA members reading this feel free to add anybody i might have forgotten, because after all i haven't offically been jumped into the DA, im just kind of a DA wennie!

lets start from the top of the food chain:

Big daddy: i had the privledge to talk with him last wednesday night at the TORR show and from the 15 minutes that i talked to him and all the countless stories that i have heard over the years, this guy is truly a legend in the sport! he is quite possibly one of the most intimidating persons i have ever talked to, but just talking to him you could tell he is an OG bad azz of off-road racing!

PAB: where do i even start?.. this guy is a PR GENIUS!!!! he can pretty much make ANYTHING happen. all joking aside, he has changed many young kids life's and helped them create self worth and a will to succeed (Bean, Blue Bear, kicker, Brian Degan and all the guys in the Metal Mulisha). Ill go out on a limb here and say that NOBODY does more research in/about baja than Cameron Steele PERIOD! Many say he is the ring-leader of the DA, people said that about Dick Landfield too and just look at the legacy that the Rough Riders created (most all are envoys)! if the DA is any inclination of off-roading in the next 10+ years, this sport is going to be HUGE

Mrs. Heidi Steele: the first woman to ever win the SCORE and BITD series IN THE SAME YEAR!! not only that but she got a "true grit" award as well, completing EVERY mile in the series!!! so for all of you haters out there: YES, YOU GOT BEAT BY A GIRL!! ....... oh and she's a 9-5er too!! corporate america needs more racers like her!

NIMROD: commander of the short bus and probably the biggest buggy dork the DA has! this guy puts his heart and sole into the DA day after day, and believe it or not but he doesn't even drive or co-drive ANYTHING but the short bus! if there was anybody i would ever want on my team it would be NIMROD!

Danny/Adam Ashcraft: from 1600 to 10 cars to TT's these guys can drive it all!! i really look up to these guys, even as far back as my first days of racing. where ever they are at they just seem to "bring it"

Daniel Folts/Brian Burges: if you dont know who these guys are, you should take a minute and talk to them, make sure you take notes while your at it!.. these guys have a 1600 and 12 car dialed in!! they OVER ALL'ed a 400 mile race IN A 12 CAR!! mad props to these guys, always coming to the plate with something new.

Rick St. John/Adam Pfankuch: wow!! and wow is an understatement!!... TOP 10 in the baja 1000???? holly smokes!! multi season points championships in 1600 and 12! these guys are as real as they come!

Blue Bear: from working at a small shop in a city called El Monte, to exclusively working for one of the top TT drivers at the Gieser Brothers shop! this guy has came a long way. he has camerson's truck dialed!

Bean: id be wiling to go out on a limb and say that Bean is the fastest guy in a 12 car, a 15+ year old 12 car mind you. hearing that he will for the first time be running his own 1600 car program throws a monkey wrench into anybody running the 1600 class. he DOMINATED top drivers who have been around for longer than he was alive this year at the LDC and finished with authority, and it was his FIRST time in the truck!! the future holds nothing but great things for this guy!

Deano/Glen-g: they are always keeping things interesting! every team need guys like these two guys. racing is all about friends, family and having fun, these guys surely know how to have fun! i have nothing but respect for both of these guys.

cody stewart/Rene/Trey/jGunn/.... not that i dont like these guys, i just cant show them too much love because i dont know much about them (hopefully some of the DA guys can help me out) sorry dudes .... all of the excerpts that i wrote about the different people are from personal experiences that i have had with these people or have heard from others or here on RDC

....what it comes down to is the DA is like one giant family. they are constantly pushing the sport and they represent yokohama tires and all of their other sponsors like NO OTHER TEAM out there!!! for all of you (including myself) who needs some direction oh where to lead your team and how to get it there, talk to these guys!! FOLLOW THEIR LEAD!!

I have the utmost respect for EVERYBODY involved with the DA, i just thought it was time that i show how they have impacted the sport and most of all MY LIFE!! AND THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT! hell, half of these guys dont even know who i am, but ultimately these are the guys i look up to.........THANKS GUYS!

Where did you get the information that Yokohama is the "winningest" off-road tire? Mark McMillin started the BFG winning streak in 1986 and Andy broke it with Robby in TOYO Tires in 2006. 20 years of overalls at the Baja 1000. That is as good as it gets.

That's baja 1000 overall wins for BFG not class wins, I think. Ask Nimrod.
Don't bother me. I'm wasting potential.
    Life's a grave, dig it.
