SAW shock rust
I was looking at my rear shocks last night, I have a lot of rust on the main bodies and especially on the bypass tubes. The shafts look OK.
The shocks are less than one year old.
I read SAW had a rust problem of the shafts a few years ago but I also read they remedied the problem. It seems the bodies are the issue.
I can post some pics in a day or so, it is usually dusk by the time I get home.
Any advice?

Re: SAW shock rust
Call S-A-W and explain the issue. It sounds like the plating on the shock bodies was not very good. Ask them if they can help you. This will sound like a pain in the butt, but maybe if you tear the shocks down and send them the cans they will re-plate and hone them for you. You never know until you ask. Or maybe send them the whole shock, you pay for a shock service (Oil and seals) and they will fix the cans since they are tearing the shocks down for the service.
But the best bet is to call S-A-W and talk with them. Who knows maybe they are fully aware of the issue, as there might have been a bad batch and they might take care of this without question. Then again maybe they will work with you but it might cost you a few bucks to resolve this issue.

If they don't want to help you, here's a plating company. http://www.prime-plating.com I know its not close to you, but it might give you a idea for cost. Try searching your area for plating companies.

Re: SAW shock rust
Thanks for the advice.
I did call SAW, he said to send some pics and they would look at them, and see what they say.

Interesting side note, I picked up a fox coilover yesterday and noticed it had a light blue tint and asked what it was. They told me it was a clear coat that fox is now putting on. Im sure the other companys will follow suit in the future.

clear coat fox has used for sometime...usually not on the coilovers since it will come off as soon as you adjust the perch. If you notice the coilvoers rust faster then the smooth bodies...but that also has to do with the way plate lays on sharp radii.

Sent some pics to SAW and talked to Brian, in looking at the pics and talking to me, he told me to send the rear shocks for stripping and replating

Re: SAW shock rust
Good to hear! I will say when I have had an issue with a product, if I call the company directly and explain the problem I'm having. Most of the time I have had positive results. I'm glad to hear that S-A-W is doing the same for you.
