    Would you go to Mexico?

I have a couple of friends racing in the Baja 250 and they want me to go down to San Felipe with them. I was wondering how bad of an idea is it to go? Who else is going to go for the race? If I do go I think I might leave the 13th. Would anybody want to caravan down there together? I was thinking at least travel from the border to San Felipe and back to the border together. More people together sounds better to me. Or am I just being a little beotch?

I would go to san felipe without question.
Travel only during daylight, travel with group if you can, keep an eye on your stuff, obey their laws and you should be fine.
Great fun race to go to!

You shouldn't be at all worried about driving through Calexico, Mexicali and to San Felipe as far as crime goes. It's a relatively safe drive and you won't be the only one on the road. Go for it, take an ez-up, a cooler and some chairs, go to Borrego or somewhere around race mile 30. The leaders will be by before it gets dark and you'll have plenty of time to drive back. It's about 2.5 hours from Calexico to San Felipe, probably a half hour less to those spots (more or less)

I have been to San Felipe before for the Baja 1000 a few years ago and I had a blast. I was just a little worried about all of the crime, well murders that have been going on. Thanks for your input.

Re: Would you go to Mexico?

Wasn't there a speed trap around San Felipe for the Baja 1000 last year?

Might want to keep that in mind.

And I CAN NOT WAIT to get down there!
Don't bother me. I'm wasting potential.

Re: Would you go to Mexico?

i wish i was going. i dont care for the border cities but you gotta go through them to get to your destination unless your flying. i prefer going through tecate to get to san felipe a little more time in mexico but its a simple easy drive

Be smart dont speed dont drink and drive obey the traffic laws but drive offensively and have a great time.

for the 100o we got pulled over at midnightish 30 miles south of san felipe i was a little scared but the polica asked if we were drunk or had drugs searched the car patted us down let us go (i had $400 in my wallet). if your not a complete $hithead your not gonna have a problem imo.

I would go, travel during the day and try to travel in groups, don't do anything you wouldn't do in the US, so you won't get in trouble down in Mexico.....
