    water misters

Does any one have any suggestions on putting together and finding parts for a water mister? Maybe Harbor Freight? The kind that you would hang from an eazy-up that sprays a nice fine mist of water. I'm trying not to roast too bad in Henderson this weekend.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

home depot have them and so do some garden stores but you have to be hooked up to a garden hose or something to run them.

We got the vinyl tubing and directional spray nozzles from a garden shop, but I think you can get them at Home Depot too. Instead of hooking the system to a hose, we hook it up to a portable tomato sprayer (also at a garden shop). The portable sprayer holds about 4 gallons of water and "sprays" by pressure you create by a hand pump built into the top of the sprayer. It will mist about 15 minutes before another 10-12 strokes of the pump. And you'll need to fill the water container about once an hour. Poor man's method, but it works nicely!

We used it on our EZ-up at last year's Henderson, and last month's V-R and MDR 400. Caution: you'll make lots of new friends once they see this.

You could replace that hand pump with a 12volt compressor or a CO2 bottle to keep your hands free for better things.

The individual parts are available at most hardware stores. Vinyl tubing and mister nozzles are easy to set up. YOu want a "hudson" style sprayer, they will pump up with pressure and hold for quite awhile. Pretty easy to do and works great.

    Re: water misters

We had one at the last MDR race. Parts were purchased at Home Depot, and water run with a small electric water pump plugged into the generator. They took two 50 gal. drums of water, and never got into the second one. The two biggest problems were the spray nozzles getting clogged with dust and turning into a drip system instead of mist, and your sunglasses constantly getting wet and caked with the dust. Still well worth it.

My Dad has that same set-up, but he uses an old water tank from a motorhome and they usually run that thing all day long. He puts a small screen inside the hose attachment to collect some of the dust particles. He also runs a system with 2 sets of misters so that they will reach all the way around the awning.
