Thumbs up In Honor of Staff Sgt John C. Beale

This will make you proud of American citizens.

Killed in action in Afghanistan the week before, the body of Staff Sergeant John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.

Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects Honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice.

The link below is a short travelogue of that day's remarkable and painful journey from the camera of one of the police escorts. But only watch this if you wish to have some of your faith in people restored. Please share widely.

Re: In Honor of Staff Sgt John C. Beale

I am very proud to say that every Canadian killed overseas gets this treatment. They are flown to the Trenton AFB about 1.5 hours east of Toronto and are given a minimum 10 police car escort for the hearse and the limos and other vehicles for the family from Trenton to the coronors office downtown Toronto. To see the thousands of people crowding at the overpasses and the sides of the road waving their flags and saluting...it is incredible. I have gone to overpasses 4 times to be a part of it. It is hard to explain the amount of pride that you feel when you see everyone on the overpasses. Firefighters standing on the top of their trucks, saluting. Old War veterans there on their scooters, dressed with their medals. Kids lining the sides of the streets with banners. Not a dry eye in the crowd...

Damned proud to be a Canadian!

Thanks Seve for bringing my feet back down to earth today. We all need to be reminded daily of the sacrafices being made by our brothers and sisters.
