Never mind I found a site that has baja 1000 maps that date back to 2002. I never did a search because I never thought anyone would retain old race maps.

I did a little homework and found the passes were definitely made near San Jose de La Pledra Fish Camp on the Pacific side of the course.

I figured this referring back to the old race map (2003 year of the race. I have some pictures of that race in one of my albums.) Johnny hands the bike over to Steve at around RM 458 near Catavina who's to ride the next 350 miles to the finish, meaning Johnny never rode on the gulf side of the course. That only leaves a little area from south of Puerto Canoas to San Jose de La Pledra Fish Camp.
