1979 I think, I was 11 and had my first ever helicopter ride in Parker from them searching for my Dad and the 5-1600 racecar after rear torsion broke and got stuck in a wash. Stuck all night, we searched for an hour before finding him. Thanks to them my Dad got out safely. They were first in Helicopter support for their team I believe.

Manny built his own trucks until he "Hit the Big Time". THe first trucks Manny drove under the Firestone banner were the 78 Couriers which we built at Stroppes, mid 78 ish. There was no one fabricator assigned to those trucks, but that's another story. The fabricator on the Rangers was Jeff (?). I can't remember his last name .

I know the Mears Gang had some help from a chopper early in the 70's. It was crop duster friend of there's. They put a big a ss cop light on it and won a nite race at Barstow by miles. They outlawed helo lights after that!

Re: Offroad Trivia
I was wondering if you remember any of the J.D brand guys? My dads name was Tim cornwell he built trucks for them & drove for them a little as well. I am looking for old pictures of the J.D Brand trucks & team. My dad past away in 2000 when I was 15 and all of his trophies and pictures were lost in a house fire. I just bought 2 of the trucks he built 1 of them is said to be a J.D truck and Im wanting to be eventually restore them. My dad had a off road shop in Fort Lauderdale FL as well. my grandfather's name was Roy Grover & uncle's name was Wayne Cornwell & second cousin name Bruce Hewitt all worked for JD brand any info would be help full
