THE GRAVEL CREW REPORT
CRS rallycross #13– Santa Maria, Ca € Saturday October 11
The GRAVELCREW was out again upholding their stronghold on the California Rally Series, this time in Santa Maria at a little circle dirt track built in 1964, running rally cars for the first time and providing a different spectacle of motorsports for the regular local “roundy’round” crowd.
This race was both a rally cross and rally sprint as Marvin Ronquillo was our sole GC teammate running the rally sprint in CRS GT class. Marvin placed third in class and 11th overall. Marvin’s performance was great considering he was driving on street type tires (saving the rally tires for the real races) with a first-timer co-driver.
The rally cross was hotly contested by the two Open AWD cars of Scott G. and Martti Silvola. The contest has been between these two more so than the other competitors as they have dominated the class this year. Scott G. won fist in class and first overall. Martti won second in class and second overall, but our video playback shows that Martti set the fastest lap of the day with only a tenth of a second separating him and Scott. Also contesting the rallycross was Rodney Wills in Group2/5 finishing first in class and 12th overall. Rodney piloted the MTX / Streetwires ZX2 on stock (blown) suspension as the race suspension is out for service for next month’s Treeline event of the Western States Rally Championships.
Two newcomers to rally and hanging out with the GRAVELCREW are Travis Brock and Rolimar “Rollo” Castilian competing with the same car in Street Stock AWD class with a Subaru Impreza 2.5 belonging to Rollo as Travis Subaru was in service. Travis Brock finished 3rd in class and 8th overall and Rolimar Castilian finished 8th in class and 17th overall in his very first event with a total of 31 cars competing in this event.
Sunday, GRAVELCREW members headed to Irwindale Speedway for the Falken Drift Showoff event as this hold interest for the members. Sliding, drifting, dirt, gravel, rocks, all together it is tarmac and our tires are itching for a little tarmac session in “slideways” motion.
