    Tourist Card?

I've noticed the SCORE site talking about tourist cards for Mexico more often now, Is it a must have?

Has anyone had a problem with not having one?

    Re: Tourist Card?

I've driven to Cabo and back without being asked for one, but there are no guarentees. It's Mexico. Just because something wasn't done yesterday, doesn't mean it won't happen today. At the checkpoints, things can chage from one car to the next, or one checkpoint to the next. If you want to be sure, just get a card. They aren't that difficult to get.

i went to loreto in july and i was stopped both ways at guerrero negro (at the station where they spray your ride), and on the way back at a checkpoint i think between colonet and ensenada. i had to show the tourist card at those stops.

It is supposed to be Malathion, but is doesnt have the same odor. I think it is probably water. Or some kind of chemical we can no longer use in the US, like DDT

    Re: Tourist Card?

I've been pass the spray guys a million times and they never ask me for the card. A few of my buddies are going for the first time this year and they keep buggin me about these things(tourist cards, insurance, drinking water).

Out of all my Baja trips since the late 80's I've only been hassled once by the federales, hopefully it stays that way, when they seach your car they tear up everything.

I'll be sure to taste the spray next month! I love Kool-Aid! j/k

Spray your ride??? wtf?? I've never even ehard of that.

I frequent Ensenada for races (5-8 times a year) and San Felipe once or twice a year, and (knock on wood) I have never been pulled over or had any police trouble. I usually get flak coming back into the US because they think a blonde chick by herself coming back from Mexico is a little suspicious, but luckily, no real trouble.

    Re: Tourist Card?

The Mexican version of Immigration has guys at Guerro Negro, where they spray your ride. For those that haven't been there, this is the split between Baja Norte and Baja Sur. There is a large military camp there, and the checkpoint is a little more then the average checkpoint you go through. The Immigration officers are the ones who will check for tourist cards. I have been asked, and then told never mind when they saw us digging them out. That is the only place I have ever been asked for one.You just never know.
