A New fabrication School

Hey everyone,

Myself as well as some other people are attempting to put together a new fabrication school. It is in the works right now and very vague, just compiling information, figuring out schedules all that good stuff. My question to everyone is if you went to a fabrication school what would you like to get out of it? What would you want to be taught? What would you expect out of it? Before I proceed I would like to get some feedback so anything that you guys have to say would be very much appreciated. I'dm sorry that i do not have a lot of information at this time i will hopefully have more very soon.

Teach everything needed to be a real "Fabricator". How about teaching most of the Fab stuff discussed here:

There is much more to being a Fab guy than notching and welding tubing.

If I was a paying customer I'd want to be taught suspension/steering geometry, cage work and some type of CAD type program (Solidworks preferred). Basically what it'd take to build something "right" from scratch.

I have never really seriously thought about going to a fab school before, just because I have been able to learn directly from the sports top builders and sweep up shop for them. I know enough to get myself into deep trouble and have been itching at the bit to be able to get back into my VW Thing build, and learn for myself the hard way.

Your school will only be as good as your instructors, and I can speak for a lot of people in the sport, and on this site, that if you can get top name builders to come do clinic's, or something of the sort, you can get a prettier penny for your time and effort. The sport of Off-road is always changing, and right now radius rolled tubes are IN!!! If you could get someone like Mr. Kaiser from Alpha, or someone like that to give a few lessons on things like that, you have got it made. To see most of the people and cars that come from the other schools is flat out scary sometimes.

I know people like to get hands on very quickly to be able to show their progress to friends and family, but there could be 1,000 books written on theory of why things are the way they are currently in the desert. To teach your students these ways will enrich their time with you. I know I asked about a zillion questions in every chassis build I have been a part of, and about a million more for the prep jobs I have done. To logically think out a project in terms of maintinance before you ever lay bead on it will produce a more stellar craftmanship level in so many people's eyes.
