Randomly Meeting People in the Off-Road Community
So i started this Thread because some times you bump into people from the Off-Road community randomly.
For example: About 1 year ago, I was getting a set of tires on my truck at the local Tire Shop. I was near my truck and a guy approached me and asked me a few questions about it. After a few words and good memories he ended up being one of the C0-Drivers for Rick Johnson.
Today at school i parked near the Construction area. As I was getting out of my vehicle i see a guy in tractor come over. He asked me about my truck and a few other things. I brought up that the "Baja 1000" is coming up and that i will attending the race. He ends up telling me that he has Won a few himself back in the Mid 80's and 90's.
He then told me his name Roger Mears Jr
I paused.
And i was shocked!! This guy is a Legend along with his Dad!
Well that's my story lol I'm pretty sure Many RDC peeps have run into other off roaders randomly.
Lets here it!

Cool thread indeed. Hey Did you get Roger's contact info? Is he related to Rick? maybe a nephew or something. I need to get in contact with someone close to Rick Mears as I have been asked to help get the ball rolling to get Rick inducted into the Off-Road Hall of Fame.
I usually stop if I see anyone with an RDC or other type of off-road sticker on their vehicle and it looks like their in trouble or broke-down.

Rick and Roger are brothers so Roger Jr would be his Nephew. Rick could have been a serious legend in offroad had that silly Indy Car thing got in his way. I think he's a Hall of Famer there for sure.

Re: Randomly Meeting People in the Off-Road Community
1998 Baja 1000. I co-dawged in a 7 truck. At our hotel, a guy walked into the lobby & noticed I was wearing a wristband. He politely asked me if I went to the driver's meeting. I had, so he asked if we could sit and chat about it (he was running late from the states and missed it). We sat in the lobby going over notes and the map for about 20 minutes. Dude was very polite, seemed genuine, and all around pretty cool. He was very appreciative of the info we shared. When we were through with our conversation, he thanked me and told me his name.....Jason Baldwin. I knew of him but had never met him. I was dumbfounded that this high-class racer sought out a newbie racer for some information. I will never forget our conversation.
GODSPEED Jason!
