You can also point out the BLM issued a "no significant impact" evaluation on the last V2R race, and that off road races in general are held on existing roads. Racers can also be penalized for deviating from the course.
One of the primary arguments used by anti-access types is that off road vehicle users simply ride/drive across pristine desert wherever they feel like. It can easily be pointed out that this is not the case, especially with racing. You might also point out that while the so-called environmental groups jump up and down and yell and scream, but the actual users are the ones who organize clean-ups and attempt to keep damage in check.
