Chase Rack
I am having a chase rack built next week for the Baja 1000. It’s being built to accommodate a 37” tire, special thanks go to PCI Scott for letting me “borrow” a spare. I know 39”s are coming, but when? Anyway, I thought this would be a good topic for people to show their “skills” Other than holding tires, what have you seen? Jack mount, nitrogen bottle mount, an amber light………..

Re: Chase Rack
Tom,
I've seen worklights, and even telescoping strobe light masts (now I'm showing my age) mounted on chase truck racks. Just make sure you include enough eyes or loops, so you can lock everything up.

Re: Chase Rack
We have a rack we use that holds 4 tires and a cooler above the bed rails and then you have the space under it for pit boxes or whatever else.

Re: Chase Rack
39" 's are already here, if you are building a rack, I would definitely build it to accomodate the largest tire possible so you can always carry them too.

Re: Chase Rack
I'd add a telescoping antenna mount.
Can you share your design when done? I'd like to build a hybrid chase rack for my truck. It will also hold the sat dish stuff we use for realtime reporting.
FYI, John Bartolotti had this telescoping antenna deal figured out.

Re: Chase Rack
Yes the 39’s are here, Scott had the guys mount one up on a beadlock for me, it’s huge!
No, a strobe is not going to happen. I am doing a telescoping flood light. The tires will be above the bedrails, with provisions to lock everything up and storage underneath.
The rack is going in a Super Crew, so bed space is tight. Keep the ideas coming, before it goes to the powder coater.

Re: Chase Rack
How about a space to hold 1 or 2 fuel dump cans so they are not sliding around in the bed.

Re: Chase Rack
Just built one for Boyer Racing to use in Baja. Don't forget brackets to hold CO2/nitrogen bottle for air impact and a place to roll up the hose during transport. Needs beefy mounts in bed. Rack will be top heavy when loaded up with tires. We added loops to secure the rack to the bed with additional ratchet tie downs. Work lights for night work are also a must.

Re: Chase Rack
Probably won't/don't need all of this, but some random thots:
Rack for 5 gal work site water jug (Drinking & washing water)
Tie-down for tool box that allows full access when tied down
Tie down for small genset and locking box for extension cords, drills, grinders, etc.
Tie down for 110V fluxcore, allows use in place
Armour skin for inside of tailgate = workbench
QD for small vise on tailgate armour
Mount race radio antenna on telescoping bar
race jack cleats/dogs to locate in bed
tie down for large jug of hand cleaner
windproof paper towel holder
Easy access spare fluids holders
cab accessible cooler for food & Beer
External race radio speaker, switchable on/off
2-4 Marineco Power Points at rear of bed + several more in cab

Re: Chase Rack
a jack mount for sure
its heavy and always bouncing around when I’ve chased
you dont want to rely on the jack thats with the race car caus you have to put it back on after you change the tire
or the co-driver might leave it behind when they changed a tire
i remember when our competitor had to barrow a jack from us in san felipe because neither race or chase had one, the worst thing was that they won by less than 60 seconds.....what if
