Re: Old timer pranks / shop jokes

A couple weeks ago, the class 1 car's ls1 had issues so we had to pull it with a race coming up. so we swapped all the parts over to a ls2 and dropped it in. The driver was really happy now that his car was running again before the race. He pulled it out of it's corner of the shop and another driver quickly grabbed some motor oil and poured it on the ground under the car with the new engine, he wasn't thrilled to see that

I had one friend that would throw firecrackers in the car while i was balled up inside doing some weird out of position TIG welding...

This one really "got" me the first time....I'd be TIG welding, and the vehicle engineer Steve Ruiz would put a small allen wrench right under the rear of the pedal so when I would let off, the wrench would keep the pedal from returning all the way home...the current was still going, real light but still going...

I put just a few drops of loctite on a coworker's 1/2" impact gun where the shaft comes out. He went to use it and it was locked up solid.
It's fun asking newbs to point out the intake valves on Detroit Diesels (they're 2 strokes and don't have any!)
Drivers often write up a cracked front windsheild, bad rear tailight, or front headlight out. I always ask about the one on the other end.
Oil puddles or tapping on the frame after an in-frame overhaul is always fun.

I was notorious for hitting other mechanics racks with my air hammer while they were balls deep in work, that was always fun.

One of the shops i worked at, we used to have meetings all the time and safety training as well. There was a group of apprentice kids that we put through "impact gun safety day" which sounds kinda dumb, but it was hilarious with all of the safety gear we had on these guys.

Spray brake cleaner onunder the door of the bathroom while they are on the pot. Then light it. You can tell who the real men are by thier reaction. Some will finish others will leap out while trying to pull up thier pants.
when someone is on the creaper, grab teir legs and take them for a ride.
Replace tungsten with rivet nails. This gets them every time.

When painting the shop, my buddy took another guys hat and got the whole headband with caulk...
A guy sleeping on the job always likes it when you sneek up with an airhammer on a piece of steel and let er rip!! Spraying guys with the steam cleaner.. Shooting grease across the shop with pnuematic pump.. My cuz got me like this when i was 10, back of the head... Also painting the seat in a porta john, before the guy who waits til break is over, to go in there.. Anti seize on door knobs, steering wheels, and shifters..
