I just got word from a mutual friend that Ed Pickett lost his battle with Leukemia. Ed and his family have been avid Baja fans, as well as racers. I met him at the 2005 Baja 500. Ed raced his Class 11 with the Sportsman Buggies that year. If you ever drove in Ocean Beach, CA his 11 car was always parked on the street in front of his house. I was shocked and still am. I just recently did some fab work on his car and he was in good spirit, talking about the 1000 and Mike's Sky Ranch, so bummed!!! Rest in Peace my friend. My feelings go out to his wife, kids and family, Sean Malabanan.

If this is the guy I think, he will be missed. I don't know his name but I know he was from OB (so am I) and he was "everywhere" in Baja always ready help.

He just celebrated his 48th birthday. His house was just used in a new pilot for TV, filmed in Ocean Beach, CA. He raced RECORD and CODE, loved surfing, everything MEXICO had to offer, he will be missed.
On behalf of all the racers and chasers from the Class 11 Coalition, we offer our condolences to Ed's family and friends.

I am really sorry to hear this; I actually live one block over and see the car everyday on my way home from work. My prayers definitely go out to the family. If there is anything I can do please let me know, like I said, I am just around the corner.
Ed, by far..........was the nicest, coolest, happy go lucky guy that you can ever know. He was the one guy that you always wanted to be around, cuz he is all that, and more. I lived on the next block down, "in da hood" (Ocean Beach). When I didn't know anybody, and was racing my first race (2005 Baja 1000)...................I was working on the truck, right in front of my apartment.......................and this dude (Eddie) rolls up, on the wrong side of the street..........like he owned the place, with a surfbaord hangin' out da back of his ride, just to check my ride out (1973 Ford stepside race truck). Next thing you know.................I have a new friend, along with 10 others hangin' out with us, and a co-dawg to ride with me in the 1000. We went through Mike's Sky Rancho for the first time together(no pre running, I don't believe in it). He is a human floor jack!!! Burly as hell!! But nice as a mouse. I still can't belive it..................it happened so fast. He was doing fine last week......and then WHAM!!! In one day, it was all over. I still don't believe it...........AND I WILL NOT ACCEPT IT..........EVER!!! HE WILL BE MISSED............BUT NEVER, NEVER, NEVER FORGOTTEN!! I AM JUST GLAD THAT HE GOT TO SEE ME FINISH THE "BIG OLY" TROPHY TRUCK, AS I BRANG IT TO HIS PAD IN OCEAN BEACH 2 WEEKS AGO. I HAVE A TEARS IN MY EYES..............I need to go now. Eddie.............you da man.......always have, and will always be.
