Fire Extinguishing Integration Systems That WORK!!!
Hey, I am currently researching different, better, and safer ways as means of extinguishing fires in a moving race car for a term paper I have to write for one of my fire prevetiontion engineering courses and am takin this project very seriously. There have been too many cars burn to the ground the last few years and that is a lot of money lost. So here is a couple things I need.
1) Contact info for VOSS racing, so I can ask a couple questions on there problem from the BITD race when there truck burned down.
2) Contact Info for the I believe two class one cars that burned down this year, I believe one was the red motion pro tire class 1? And dont remember the one from earlier in the year.
3) Contact info for JOSH DANIELS. I saw the you tube video of him usin his supression system he has in his car and had a couple questions to ask off of that.
4) Contact info for anybody else that may have had there OFF-ROAD Race Car burn to the ground that HAS or HAD an integrated fire system.
If you have any of this info please PRIVATE MESSAGE me. There is know reason to post what could be personal information on a public forum. If there is anybody that is using something other than the standard HALON 1211 integrated system also either post it on the forum or P.M. me. Id like to here what people are trying and when I am done with the paper ill let everyone know what I have come up with. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Fire Extinguishing Integration Systems That WORK!!!
We had a fuel rail fire on Becca's rockcrawler that was large enough to not be put out by the Cold Fire system but we set the system up more to protect the occupants versus keeping the car from being destroyed. The sole occupant was unharmed as the fire was held back and he was soaked with the agent. As far as, "did it work?" Yes, it did, as, like I said, we're worried about the occupants and set the system up with 2 out of the 3 nozzles inside the cockpit facing the occupants. Luckily, the fuel flow stopped and the residual burnt out before the fire got away from the single underhood nozzle holding it down. The car was not damaged beyond a few melted wires and plastic but had it been a full fire, the driver/pass would have had the safety to escape, the rig would have burnt. Still, that's our focus...people...a car can be replaced.
The funny thing is, before Joe from DJ Safety talked to us about the system we picked up, we were planning on putting all of the nozzles on components that could burn worrying about the car...duh...it's funny how short-sighted I can be sometimes as our focus on designing the cars in the first place is occupant safety...I totally didn't consider the most important part as a tool for the occupants! Glad he gave me the education he did before we installed everything.
We are running a single 5b Cold Fire bottle with 3 nozzles. It's a setup that fits our rockcrawlers well.

Re: Fire Extinguishing Integration Systems That WORK!!!
FYI ...I was out there working the Primm race when the Motion tire car caught fire...
They tried close to a dozen fire extinguishers including 2 I had, and the car just burned to the ground even with about 6 people throwing dirt on the fire...The owner thought it was leaking fuel from the tank and could not get the fire out untill the SCORE fire unit pulled up with water tanks (10-15 minutes later) which finally got it to go out completely...
That just made me doubt the effectiveness of bottle fire extinguishers on a fuel fire....

Re: Fire Extinguishing Integration Systems That WORK!!!
As I've stated before, my friends in pro pavement racing say that they've never seen an on board system that did more than suppress a fire. But, such systems do allow a vehicle's occupants more time to escape or for rescue.
Great idea for a term paper, Little G, and if you can find a workable solution, a great service to racing and the community-at-large. Thanks!
