    Radius Arm orientation???

    Quick Radius Arm question?

when viewed from the top, what is more advantageous/desirable. . .the radius arms to be straight or for them to be slightly angled inward or outward?

Right now my set-up will be angled outward, don't know the angle yet because I haven't put them into the SW's assembly yet, but I wanted to see what the preferred orientation is.

Right now I have the radius arms bolting to the I-beams out as far toward the knuckles as I possibly can. . .they're like 3/4" from the end of the beams so I can very easily just change the mounting location on the beams to bring the radius arms straight if that is more desirable.

If one orientation is more desirable than another please explain why also?

Thanks guys. . .I love this forum, everyone is so helpful and willing to share their knowledge and experience!!!

I think from close to the frame to away from the frame would be better than the other way do to the arc of the beams.... but idk...

Another thing to factor in is tire clearance for turning.
I had to modify my current radius arms to clear my tires, but they are also mounted on the side of the frame.
Turning negative into positive one step at a time...

    Re: Radius Arm orientation???

i have always made mine angle in. some call them center mount. i don’t mount mine in the center but just inboard of the frame. i have never had a failure yet in over 20yr of doing it this way.

    Re: Radius Arm orientation???

My radius arm are oriented pretty much exactly like the ones you posted pic's of CharlieBrown. . .here's a pic of what I have in SolidWorks so far. . .I was getting ready to start on the steering next, but my timeline shifted so now I have time to design some knuckles specifically for my application so I can redesign the A-arms for better ground clearance. . .that big bend in them is because of the knuckles we were gonna be stuck using. . .
