Looking for a lightweight 4 or 6 cylinder, but...
So I am looking for a 4 or 6 cylinder engine that has to have over 200 horsepower and must be able to bolt to a 700R4 trans. I am looking for light weight (something in the 200 pound range if possible). So what is out there?

Re: Looking for a lightweight 4 or 6 cylinder, but...
Bolting to the tranny is fairly easy.... just an adapter plate away.
For a 4cyl, how about a flat four, helps keep the CG low...
They are just a little wide though.
How about a Subie WRX STI engine? They are equipped with an EJ205 engine rated at 227 hp at 6000 rpm with 217 lb·ft at 4000 rpm.
After 2004, they changed to the 2.5-liter EJ255 engine, turbocharged intercooled, they produced 230 hp at 5600 rpm and 235 lb·ft of peak torque at 3,600 rpm, compared to 217 lb·ft (294 N·m). at 4,000 rpm for the previous WRX.
I've built adapter plate to put the Subie against Powerglides and T350s, so the 700R4 shouldn't be much problem...
For a v-6, have you looked at the Ford Duratecs?
The 3.0 L Duratec 30 was introduced in 1996. It has 2,967 cc (181 cu in) of displacement and produces between 200 hp (150 kW) and 240 hp (180 kW) depending on what rig it is found in. The Jaguar AJ30 version has an 89 mm bore 79.5 mm stroke. In the X-Type, it produces 231 hp and 209 lb·ft. The 2009–present Jaguar XF's Duratec engine produces 240 hp and 221 lb·ft.
These engines are light (for a V-6) at around 350lbs fully dressed. Compared to the well known Chevy 4.3 @ 425lbs
The Noble sports cars boosted the 3.0 Duratecs to 425bhp in the M400.
There is also the 3.5, in the Ford Edge and Lincolm MKX which produces 265 hp (198 kW) at 6,250 rpm and 250 lb·ft (339 N·m) at 4,500 rpm.
Aston Martin use the rare 6.0 L V12, which is essentially two 3.0 L V6 units bolted together and is used in the Db7 and the V12 Vanquish.

Nissan's SR20DET? Not sure how heavy it is, but can make good power very easy and there is lots of aftermarket support for it.

Look at a supercharged ecotec. The 2.0 w/ 205hp factory and you can get the GM stage 2 kit that will up that to 245. Not under your weight limit (a bit over 300# I think)
